I found this on some Korean dating site. After reading it
a few times I still have no idea what she is talking about. It
is pretty funny though:

Can you post a response there for her to run through her crazy-ass translating engine?
How about something like:
It rubs the lotion on its skin. It does this whenever it is told. It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again.
I figure with her translator it'll come out rather coy and playful... |

Sounds to me like she wrote it in Korean and Babelfished it. |

Yeah, or something similar to Babelfish. That's the only explanation I can think of. I've seen similar things from some of my middle school students in the past. I think Naver has some kind of translator like that. |

I think it will be a long time before translation software can handle pronoun dropping. They also need to be taught not to literally translate the various forms of 그렇다. 그리고 often gets turned into "It is like that and..." |

Oooooooh, is THAT what 21 flesh names and binary give means.... I want to use that as my new signature.....
She looks a bit... vacant... in her photo. Isn't that what meth heads look like?
Cohiba, with your obvious penchant for big jugs, I think you're barking up the wrong tree with this one~ |

The problem with them is that they translate word-for-word, and usually in the same word order.
I think that a good translation program would need to first look at the sentence as a whole and distinguish which words are function words and which ones are content words. The program would then need to focus on the content words (and ignore the function words, for the most part) and find out which "roles" they are "playing" in the sentence (for example, subject) and thus the relationships between the words. Then it could begin to "build" the sentences around them.
For this to be done, I think that it would require high-level linguists and high-level computer programmers to work hand-in-glove. This might be very difficult, since people who are adept with computers and people who are adept with languages might have huge and incompatible egos. But who knows? |
