If you surf from an internet cafe, this might be just the thing for you. Browzar is a tiny web browser that requires no installation and saves no cookies, autocomplete info, cache files of any kind; in short, it's the perfect thing fore those worried about keyloggers in cafes stealing thier passwords.
This review highlights some of the good and bad aspects of the browser, and I have to agree with most of the reviews' content, essentially giving it 2 out of five. This low (and somewhat unfair) score is due to a couple of things that I think are inherent in the product.
No caching of files has a lot of meaning in functionality. No right-click context menus and having to re-load all images from a site every time it's visited. The review points out that on a slow connection, this could cause delays, but here in Korea, and most places in the well-wired-world, this is not an issue.
I say that this is a product for people using a computer that isn't theirs and don't want to leave any trace of their actions on said computer. It can run from a flash drive or a floppy disk, auto-deletes it's one file created during use (unavoidably created) and leaves no trace of itself anywhere. Perhaps in the 'prefetch' folder or in the 'recent' menu, but that is no biggie.
Anyhow, an interesting little product.
TrackMeNot is a Firefox extension that does a neat trick...it sends multiple searches out to different search engines to cloud one's search history. In light of the recent AOL fiasco which revealed thousands of peoples' searches, this product sends out bogus searches at the rate of 5 per minute, making it tough to sift through and find the one's "real" searches.
It isn't really a good idea to have the net flooded with millions of fake searches, but if you are paranoid that your "how to build a bomb" search will be exposed, having it sandwiched with a bunch of other bizarre searches might make it less conspicuous.
Interesting? Paranoid? |

| It's not dangerous...adware means that the product is connecting to advertising on the net. It's not spyware or malware, but badware. Besides, one can't "install" the program - that was half the appeal - and it does your system no harm. |
