I am going to be here for a while, and was wondering where I could buy an aircon for a good price. My place is a small bachelor pad, so I don't think I need much. I'd prefer something in the 100,000 price range, but I'll pay more if need be... up to 300,000 or so.

Now, I was just wondering. Should I go to Emart? Should I go somewhere else like LG? Do they need to install it or are there units available that don't need to be installed?

I heard there's a number to call to get one installed. Anyone know what this is?

You've got a long time until summer rolls around again. Just wait and keep your eye on the buy/sell/trade forum. Someone is likely to sell theirs between now and then.

If you buy a new one, they'll install it for free. And if you move, you can take it with you.

I doubt you'll get anything for 100,000 won. Even 300,000 won strikes me as extremely cheap (mine was about double that).

As another poster said, summer's basically over. Places like Carrefour have even stopped selling them. If you're still around next summer, and if you're here for the whole summer, get one then.

figure for a decent used one around 400k and another 150-200 to install it. New ones are expensive try aroun 800 to a million.

not much warm weather left here maybe another month and now you may not find them in emarts etc. check the local recycle shops they may have some

Buy the imported Chinese ones online. The company is called Haier and their ac units work just as well as Korean ones for less dough (often, sustantially less).

I like this idea. And not just Dave's B/S/T forum, but look around used appliances/furniture stores. I think every single gu in Seoul has one of those "IMF recycled goods" centres. Foreigners are coming & going all the time, and A/Cs are obviously one thing they're not going to be taking home with them. And if you do minor repairs & regular cleaning, A/Cs will last a looooong time. People replace their cars more frequently than their A/Cs, I'll bet.

Speaking of foreigners leaving and discarding things, Pet Lover, didn't I read somewhere that you were dumping us for a studly vegan architect/documentary filmmaker type? And you were selling things, something about a big blender you didn't use much? I recall posting on a farewell thread that I think Tzechuk started a while ago. But now you're doing visa runs & giving newbies advice on A/Cs. Decided you couldn't live without us after all? Cool

You must have missed the announcement I made when he dumped me three weeks before the flight.
