Hey any Canadians.
Does anybody have experience getting an RCMP records check from in korea? I went to the website, and it said the average processing time was 150 days? For those who have done this, can you tell me how long it really took?
Thanks |

Shoot, that won't work for me. No intention of spending a few thousand on a plane ticket to be there a for a few days. Incredible that it takes that long. |

If you mean a police records check, you need not go through the feds. Go to your hometown police service and have them do it. Mine took 3 days... |

Like I said... faster to go home and do it...
If you want it done from over here... takes 6 months.
Most home town forces won't do it for you when you are overseas unless you know someone there. |

Good point. My parents were there to submit my fingerprints. They won't accept those through the mail - they must be hand-delivered. However, if you have a friend or family member to help, it can be done really quickly. |

You guys make an interesting point. I lived in a very small town (pop 10k). My mother is still there and did editing service for the town's gov and I believe, work for the police dept. Good citizen, very well known.
If this can work, what should I do? I mean, my prints are on my fingers...
Get them done locally, and mail them? Is there any issue with chain of custody?
Damn, you guys have got me all excited again. I thought I would have to pass this app. up. |

Yep. Get the prints done at your local police headquarters (not the little police stations all over), get it signed, stamped and the officers' name card attatched. Type up a letter stating that you authorize your mother to submit the prints on your behalf. I had to send my birth certificate as well and my mother had to produce i.d. at the station back home. A few days later, I got an e-mail from the police telling me the results were in the mail to Korea. Yes, give them a return address in Korea and they will come right to your door.
Including mail time, it took less than 2 weeks. If you use a courier, it would be far less than that. |

Ah, a couple of more questions.
"A few days later, I got an e-mail from the police telling me the results were in the mail to Korea. Yes, give them a return address in Korea and they will come right to your door. "
Was there a fee for the service? Who mailed the report? The police or family? And finally, as I plan to be in the PI with family during this period, can I have the records sent to the recruiter or a Korean friend here?
Thank you. |

At my regional police department, the process takes 10 minutes or less, if you go in person. No finger printing involved. Pay the fee, $30, supply proof of identification, and after a computer search for any existing convictions or charges; your done. You are issued a certified letter/form with the results. Sorry, I know you said the trip was out of the question. I'm only posting this for comparison purposes so others know what kind of variability to expect. That's how it works in Waterloo Region, for anyone there.

You can have them sent where you like. There was a $25.00 fee and it was the police that sent them off, not my mother.
Good Luck. It really was a piece of cake...
Edit: Try to protect the prints as well. Sandwich the paper between two other A4s and put one or two very small pieces of tape to hold it all together. The prints can smudge if not handled carefully. I had no problem with the aforementioned method. |

If you just need a police check (as in from any police station)it can be done quickly, but if you specifically need an RCMP fingerprint-based check it will take the 150 days that they warn you about.
We did our RCMP check totally through the mail. [/u] |

I got it done, and that looks about right, perhaps even shorter that it took for me to get mine. I could look back at last year's calender if you'd like. I do remember it taking a very frustratingly long time. |
