Hello all.
I want to get some opinions from the board.
My E-2 expires on Saturday.
My flight leaves Sunday.
I also have a new passport which should be stamped by immigration. ie; moving my visa from one passport to another.
I went last friday to Daegu immi on the last day of the 14 day grace period, but the officer there wouldn't stamp my passport, or extend my period of sojourn. I had only the receipt for my ticket, not the actual ticket. I got that on Friday evening. He was a bit of a difficult person, rather full of himself. My passport has August 4th as the issude date, but I didnt receive it until August 19th. He told me several times that I should have brought the passport in on the same day it was issued, August 4th. But, he also said several times, "I forgive you." He then said come back next week.

This week is crazy busy with packing, job application, medical, etc. I wanted to go to immigration tomorrow morning (90 minutes by bus), but I found out a few minutes ago that I will have a new class in the morning.

Question.
What is my potential penalty for being one day over my stay, as well as not having my status reflected in my new passport?
Could diplomacy, humility, and an earnest apology be a likely solution?
Or, do I need to skip the class in the morning?

Any and all advice or just plain knowledge welcome...

Thanks.

edit....I need to decide this by this evening...

I thought that I heard before that the penalty for staying illegally was 100,000W per day. So, I think, you might be looking at a 100,000W fine. But of course don't quote me on that.

I was five days over an H1 visa the first time I left Korea, and they let me go with a warning. The Chinese-Korean family in line ahead of me got in deep trouble. This is one of those situations where you count your lucky stars you're white.

I think they go by the date on your ARC.

Potential fine = 100k.
Mark in your file for the overstay is permanent.
New passport doesn't mean anything. Your name/ARC/particulars are on file.

3 options:
1) Go to the immigration office tomorrow with your passport, ARC and ticket in hand and get your extension.
2)Show up at the airport before midnight on Saturday and pop into the immigration office. They will fix it there for you
OR
3) You can go through passport control before your expiry and you can spend the night in the departures lounge.

Save you 100k and the blackmark in your file (unless you are planning to never return).

Thanks everyone. I am more concerned with the potential significance of a black mark than 100k. Looks like I'll be going to immi. in the morning. Poop!
