Hi,

My husband has been in Korea a week and says he is having an interesting time, as everything is in Korean and he can't even figure out which bathroom is which!

Yesterday he went into a restaurant and just did the point and pray thing, as he could not read the menu.

Any advise for newbies in Korea, trying to get around, or good language books to pick up? I will be joining him in a few weeks and am a little nervous.

Thanks. Very Happy

Generally there are pictures on the bathroom doors - figure in a dress, versus figure in.. just a stick figure.

The men's washroom might have a word that begins with a character that looks like an L. If your computer screen can see these characters, it is 남자

The women's bathroom, if there is no picture, will likely begin with another kind of tetris piece: ㅕ (like the tonfa, a weapon used by the police but with two handles).

The "Lonely Planet" phrase book for Korea is probably a good investment for a newbie.
http://shop.lonelyplanet.com/product_detail.cfm?productID=1569&affil=lpdp

They are available in most book stores that carry Lonely Planet books.

It worked great for me during my first 2 years here.
