They got this new fandangled contraption called the "internet" now and you can use it to keep up to date with all the tunes from back in the old country without ever having to leave the comfort of your shoebox apatuh. Wink

And for the record, I voted "never".

I miss reggae music and good core-free ska, but I guess that stuff isn't from my home country necessarily.

I miss being able to go to a club and hear music that I like... I mean, yeah, there's the internet, and I can work LimeWire, but I rarely get to hear anything new because I'm never anywhere where I hear anything that makes me think, "Wow, I need to find out what this is and get a copy..." I don't really have the time or energy to research everything new that I might like and then download it to see if I really do like it or not.

Lizara, allow me to recommend www.pandora.com

You put in bands/songs you like and it builds a radio station for you. It adds in songs which share musical traits with the music you entered. It's not the best thing ever, but it's pretty cool. If you're looking for new stuff it can be a great tool.

Also if anyone's intersted http://www.womg.com/ has a great oldies stream. In the interest of full disclosure I have to say that this is the station my husband works for (until mid-December when he heads to Korea)... but it's a pretty hot oldies station with darn good djs.

As for missing music... we're in the process of loading everything onto our external hd. We've got about 500 albums on it so far... 400-500 to go. (My little bro is psyched, he's inheriting our album collection.) The only thing I'm bummed about is that I doubt my beloved Wilco plays many shows in Korea. Here in the U.S. we see them at least 3-4 times a year between local shows and the ACL/Bonnaroo Festivals. We've already given my pops the Wilco release dates with the command that he WILL BUY THE ALBUM THE DAY IT COMES OUT AND FEDEX IT TO US TOOT FREAKING SWEET!

I'm a totally non-violent person, but I pity the fool who stands between me and a Wilco album release. The only public altercation I've ever had was with a dude who tried to cut in front of me when I was in line for Wilco tickets. I was all like, "Oy! I've been standing in the rain for 10 hours to get these tickets. I will pop your head like a zit if you don't get your flabby tush to the back of the line." My husband was quite proud.

I got front row tickets!

Seconded. The Internet may be a great thing, but noy everything is always available to you. I also miss live music, and the kind of atmosphere you get seeing your friends band play in a dirty basement of a grotty pub.

There's really no need to miss it. They play that stuff everywhere in Korea anyways.

Do you mean reggae? Or core-free ska? Or both? Please, tell me more!

Yes, exactly. I am listening to BBC Radio 3 right now - The Proms.

But, I also miss real live music and the atmosphere: a good blues band, preferably in a small venue - pubs are my favourite for this. Of course better even than this is being one of the band.
