i have just recieved a job offer, everything seems ok. however, i have been told i need to quote ......"You will simply need to go to the Korean Embassy in London with your passport, the "Visa Registration Number" and a second set of official sealed transcripts to have your visa stamped. And then, you're ready to fly" this is not as simple as they imply, to begin with it is 250 miles away and time and money are an issue.

Could anyone tell me if this is standard precedure?

I am a bit worried about the last poster's advice as it took a whole week to get mine done! Don't leave it to two days before take-off. I think my experience is pretty up to date (5 months ago).

You can post everything and pay for them to post it back. Either way it is a hassle.

I did the trip in one day...

I took the train to Euston... took the underground, changing once before ending up at Buckingham Gate... it was a 5 minute walk from the Underground Station... grabbed some lunch with a friend and then took the train back home

You'll have to pay �20 or �30 cash for the Visa too if I remember rightly... no way that it's going to be done in a day either... you're looking at about a 3 - 5 day return with them shipping it back to you Express Mail... I'm not sure why the Korean Embassy in London takes that much longer than most others in the world

sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you'll need to make TWO journeys, since, if this is still the case, the visa takes five working days (mine took four because I made a huge issue over it).

Alternatively, you could do it all via Fedex or registered mail, but I'm a control freak and did it in person (two journeys - the final one, getting my visa, the day before I flew). Money, distance and time were issues for me too.

Why does it take longer at London than elsewhere? Because they're lazy, piss-taking ba5tards.

Another thing....one doesn't have to fly from London. That applies to Korean Air solely. You can go via Manchester and other airports via other airlines plus transfers, but on reflection, having done both options, Korean Air via Heathrow is the best.

If money is really an issue, use National Express coaches as opposed to trains. It takes much longer but is under 50% of the cost. Don't drive in central London.

If you book your train more than 48 hours in Advance than you can buy �10 singles on thetrainline.com from Manchester to London anyway... if you book too near the date you intend to travel down however then you'll find the best train times have been booked up, so you'll be best to book your journey as far in advance as is possible...

I didn't fly from London... Spinoza's right... but London IS the only UK airport you can fly direct to Korea from... I flew from Manchester with Emirates, changed planes at Dubai with a 2 hour wait between flights, and flew into Seoul from Dubai...

i've done this a few times. It takes a few days, 4 or 5 if i remember rightly. Like the previous poster above said, take the bus to London and do this part in person. Get them to post the docs back to you - i did this was no problem. You can call the embassy and they will (try) and tell you this information. They're English was sooo poor! Bet they can write perfect sentences though!

My visa took three days to arrive after I dropped it off in London.
Did sightseeing after as it literally only took 10 minutes.
I lived in Cornwall so it was about 550 miles round trip and I did it in a day.
