With things heating up on the peninsula between the US and the North, would this change what city you would consider going to?

I was originally intent on Seoul, but now I may feel more at ease in a city a little further south (something about thousands of guns and missles pointed at the city that disturbs me Shocked ). Along with the leader of the North saying it's time for war. I read a whole bunch of history on this guy, he's unstable and an alcoholic. His regime is almost done for, he's got nothing to lose. Maybe I'm being too cautious. Shocked

What in some of you opinions would be the next best thing to Seoul. I'm not a beach person but like the water. I want to be in a city that's as cosmo as one can get without being in Seoul. Any suggestions?

Also does anyone have any good schools or recruiters they can reccomend? I thought I had found a good one, but the information he knows about the schools is very minimal which means he's never placed anyone in them so he has no feedback. I'd rather go direct or with a recruiter that actually knows the school. You can leave me a pm if you want. I won't use your name unless you want me to. Smile

I think Seoul is the best drug of choice out there. Seriously, nothing beats "the Killbox". I highly doubt that idiot Kim would attack his own people and it would be suicide on his part if he ever did. Don't believe everything you read. Remember, papers are trying to sell volume. Sensational stories go down well in keeping people in fear and making money for the publisher$.

I feel totally safe in NE Seoul- mind you, there are no guarantees. See what tom. brings.
Good luck.

Oh, and for a good recruiter. Check out Stunted Wookie. He's a Bluenoser (from Nova Scotia) living in Canada. Great guy. Tell him I sent ya!

Cheers!

I have never lived there but I guess that Busan is the next best thing. It is Korea's second biggest city with an excellent ferry port which would be handy for any low budget trips to Japan. Kwangju is the only place where I have lived. It is a good introduction to Korea. I don't think Seoul is. You could still get up there at weekends if you get bored.

Most people in Gwangju are wanting to move up to Seoul. Anyway, that's what I'm hearing.

Come off it. Don't be such a chicken man- laugh in the face of danger. seoul is where you should be, trust your first instincts. Twisted Evil

I wasn't stating that Seoul was a bad place or anything. I think that living in Kwangju for the first year gives one a better insight into Korean culture. I agree that after one year it is time to move to Seoul though. Kwangju is good until the novelty factor wears off.

Kwangju was great. If I wasn't so firmly settled here in Seoul I'd head back.

Taegu seems to be a nice city to live in. But, I don't see why everyone is so intent on living in a big city. If you want the Korean experience, go live in the countryside. You can still go shopping. Most small cities even have English books in bookstores now. This is NOT a big country. Go live anywhere. I would even recommend staying away from Seoul for one's first year.

One person saying it like 10 times over the course of one weekend can't count for THAT much, can it? Wink

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Your more likely to get run over by a bus here than get killed by a northkorean nuclear weapon. Either way you want it over in done with really quickly so I'd live in seoul.

I vote for Busan. I think the weather is nicer down here. There is an active foreigner scene here and I think it is a good place to live. I have never lived anywhere else in Korea though. By the way I thought Stunted Wookie was living in in Busan?

I don't think North Korea has hit the "nothing to lose so we might as well take everyone with us" point yet. Actually the meeting coming up is making me very hopeful that things are settling down and the worst is over. I've heard good things about Busan but remember Busan was a real hot-spot in the last war too so really nowhere is 100% safe.

Thanks for all the replies!!

So I take it that Busan is the next best thing to Seoul in terms of expat community, night life and things to do then?
