As the old saying goes, "You wanna live forever?"

Don't necessarily want to live forever, but i'd rather not die of dehydration or the like after being trapped helpless under a load of rubble for 3-4 days.

I've read that the tremor and more that were felt on Tonga and Papua New Guinea could be signs of an even bigger disaster waiting to happen.

Mount Merapi in central Java is experiencing heightened activity since the quake.

Fearful times, eh?

Bear in mind the new visa restrictions for Indonesia. You used to be able to stay for three months, now you get a one month visa only.

i liked Jakarta when i was there.. but after recently spending a few days in Kuala Lumpur.. i gotta say KL is more intriguing.

essentially because of the mix of indian, chinese and malay in Kuala Lumpur - 3 cultures in one city. (whereas jakarta was just essentially indonesian in comparison).

plus KL has 'www.airasia.com' which has tons of cheap airflights to get away anytime you want whenever you want for a quick easy vacation!

You've obviously not gone far outside the 'golden triangle' then. Glodok, Mangga Besar, most of west Jakarta???
