I've got the backlight on for 2 seconds, otherwise its on lock mode. I almost never use the video feature, yet it still manages to run out after about 3-4hours. Even when I bought it new it only lasted about 6-7 hours, not the 15 or whatever they had advertised. I switched my USB port, since the one I charged from may or may not be 2.0. I'm just curious, since I'll wait until the new touch screen comes out in the winter and then exchange it at costco. I'd still like to know how to improve the battery life in the meantime though. |

could be one of several reasons:
-Your battery is defective; cells are dead and no longer hold a strong charge
-Your battery is slowly dying; it may be time to get a new one.
-You over charged it and in consequence, have killed a lot of the cells in the battery thus no longer allowing you to get the full charge.
-Some batteries have a "virtual memory" in that the first time you get it, you MUST make sure it is fully drained, then fully charge it. If you failed to do so, then the memory "freezes" at that specific charge point.
-Equally notable, if you charge your battery over and over again without it being fully drained, you will damage it.
From what you are saying, "it used to last 6 to 7 hours on a full charge and now it only lasts from 2 to 3 hours" my best assumption would be that the battery is slowly dying and it's time to replace it. It doesn't matter how long you have had the battery for. What matters is how much you use it and how well it was when it left the manufacturing plant. For all we know, it may have been defected from onset.
Hope this helps.

Yes, it helps, but it makes me regret buying the piece of crap. Never once did it come close to the 14-15 hours Apple advertised. I'm just glad I bought it as Costco so I can return it |

There are so many threads about iPods messing up.
Let me tell you something - Minidiscs cost less. You can buy blank discs for the MD that cost $5 and they hold 49 hours of music. If my minidisc messes up I still have my whole music collection on disc. I can record anything I can hear - it has a microphone input so I can record direct from my PC, TV, DVD player as well as record speeches. They battery life is looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong. And if the battrey life dies out, I can go to HomePlus and get TWO new batteries for only $10 (rechargable). MDs are pretty durable. Last summer I was driving about the USA and would listen to it for 20 hours non-stop. I have used it everyday for 16 months and never had any problems. Its been dropped quite a few times as well.
But hey... iPods have those cool commercials. |

I'm betting that you didn't charge it properly the first time. You can get battery replacement kits and do it yourself or if you don't want to pm that ipod dan guy and he'll do it.
I'd rather have my old AIWA walkman than a minidisc....anyday. |

Yeah baby. Though not a walkman. I have had this cool cali mp3 player for about 6 years. It's flawless. It's also waterproof and shock resistant. You strap it to your arm and go work out or what not.
I love my mp3 player. |

I always go for an mp3 player and a digital camera that uses straight up batteries. Rechargeables are cheaper to replace than an internal battery and if you forget to charge up your batteries, you can get cheap batteries anywhere. |

Take it back and get an exchange. If the problem persists then try a different product. |

That'd be me. I've had the iPod mini for about 18 months and haven't had one issue with it.

I can only speak from the experiences that my friends have had. I'd say about half my friend who have iPods (maybe 10 or 11) have had problems with them.
