I used Avast! before the free trial ended. It usually showed no problems on a scan.
I use CCleaner which seems quite helpful.
I also have SpyBot Search and Destroy, which helps.
Also, ZoneAlarm, Which just seems to sit there quietly most of the time, but I guess is helping somehow.
The Avast! free trial period ended a few days ago, and I didn't even notice till today. So I got a different one, "Avira Antivir." Running the first scan, and it finds at least 5 problems, which I promptly delete. I wonder why it finds these issues when the other things do not. Maybe it's better? I suppose I should point out that I am a novice with computers. |

| All right, I'll do that then, and get rid of the Avira, though it seems OK, but will expire Nov. 30th. |

| I will try some of those anti virus programs...ever since i got here, my laptop's been acting up, slowing down and not performing as fast anymore, it must be the result of ahem 'surfing' alot on the internet. now it's got enough viruses to compete with a thai prostitute. |

I had problems a couple of months ago. This is the first computer I have owned and I just bought it 3 months ago. I didn't realize how important it was to have these things. When I added "Spybot- Search and Destroy" a month or two ago, the first scan came up with 37 problems to clean. It couldn't clean it all in one shot but eventually did.
"CCleaner" is good to have, too. It cleans up unnecessary stuff all the time, finds "issues" and is also easy to use to remove (uninstall) stuff you no longer want or need. |

I was using AVG Antivirus, Spybot, Adaware, and Microsoft's Windows Defender. Recently I changed to Avast! antivirus, combined with Ewido (very good anti-spy/trojan ware) and Windows Defender. I still have Adaware and Spybot to use occasionally. Don't trust one program to find all your malware!
All of the above are free, and can be found here:

Oh, and I also use Firefox, which is a safer and better browser than the Microsoft alternative, and highly recommended:
