I knew a girl who got some gig through an NGO helping out orphans in North Korea. I think they were with the UN... Apparently, this is the only way to see the "real" country. And this kind of gig is very hard to get. I've since lost contact with her...
Anyone know which NGOs go to NK? Are they still even allowed in? |

You might want to take the comma out at the end of your link so it works |

There are some interesting videos put up by Western visitors to NK on YouTube, such as ones by this guy:

I also considered the Geumgang tour, but if you check the small print of one of the tour brochures, it says that currently, only 2 of the hiking routes (out of 3) are open. Also, I was quoted about 600,000 for travelling alone which seemed expensive for just 3 days - only one full day in Geumgangsan - and my final decision lay in that I'm also convinced that all the tour fees go straight into the pockets of Kim Jong Il and don't go to the people. The Geumgangsan tour must be the biggest revenue earner in NK. Likewise, when I considered the NK tour offered by travel groups such as Koryo, I felt paying the 2 million visa fee was unethical. Same with Baekdusan, even though Baekdusan looks like the most awesome place in the whole of the Korean peninsula. Anyone here visited it? |
