Ok, i got this wacky, so far uncomfirmed story from my g/friend. She claims she saw a story on the 9 pm news about some American GI stopping on the big bridge that goes to Incheon airport, getting out of the car, opening up the trunk, and dumping the body over the bridge, into the water below. They got all this on the highway cameras.

According to my g/friend, the body was a white woman, presumably this guy's wife. He is now in custody.

I've been watching YTN the past 10 minutes, no mention of this. The only yahoo story I could find was about two soldies dying in a plane crash today somewhere on the Korean peninsula.

thanks, you were a bit more pro-active about it than me.

Not to make light of the tragedy and death of anyone, but when my g/friend told me it was a white woman and not korean, I relaxed a tad. I can only imagine what kind of protests and reaction that would have occured had it been a korean woman.

Thats horrible!! It really is, but immediately this come to my mind.

It just amazes me how stupid some people are. I mean, when you drive on that bridge, you can see cameras almost every few hundred meters. There is alot of traffic there. I mean, he almost got caught once and then he tried again a few hundred meters down the bridge according to the story. I mean how dumb do you have to be? I dont mean to be nasty but it really makes me think that as his rank was a major he should be a bit smarter than that. How does a person like that become a major? A MAJOR for petes sake! I would expect a bit more brains than that!

Again, these are just my thoughts, no offence to the Americans in Korea. I really do feel for the victim and her family, I really really hate domestic violence, especially when men hit woman. I mean, it must take a REAL strong macho man to beat up a woman.

Oh well, enough said.

yeah, i was going to say the same, but considering what took place, figured i'd shut my mouth about it. Of course he's dumb, but then again, why should i criticize a murderer for his stupidity? That's the least of his faults Smile

. I think we should be happy that he's so dumb. who knows what might have happened if he had had a brain and dumped the body in a place no one would have looked?

Due to the fact he did act so stupidly, it was probably an act of passion and not murder 1. Not that i've ever killed someone, but I doubt i'd be thinking very well after commiting such an act.

Yes, maybe he was not thinking straight. I am just glad he was caught. I hope he gets maximum punishment. I believe thats the problem with society today, we down play crimes and give lesser sentences because it was a "crime of passion"! Give me a break!! Why make excuses for a sensless crime. I dont care if it was a "passion", murder is murder!!

Anyway, is the death penalty still valid in the U.S.?

yes, for federal crimes; remember Timothy McVeigh? Some states ban it but i think more than half have it on the books. doesn't matter though because he will be tried in a korean court, at least according to the Times article. More relevant question is: does korea have the death penalty?

People don't usually get the death penalty for plain old murder. not to downplay the event. But it usually has involve some kind of extreme malice or planning or brutality or some sexual element to get the death penalty. So, we have a murder, why are you even talking about the death penalty?

Thanks Giant and BB; you're right murder is no laughing matter, BUT... well, thank god for stupid criminals, at least they get caught.

I drive the route she disappeared on twice a day, and have seen thousands of dog walkers, cyclists, etc. Unfortunately, there were no cameras around to catch this f--king animal.

There are a lot of really sick people out there...

Yes, thats a sad thing to happen, but thats a different murder to the one that happened in Korea.

And, I was just curious about Korea having a death penalty, or the US if they would seek it in this case.

As for my country in South Africa, abolishing the death penalty was the worst thing they could have done, now crime is much more rampant.

So as this act supposedly occured off-duty, SOFA will not be involved, and the Korean authorities will be in charge of the prosecution...correct?
