Seriously. EVERYTHING is booked. I told a travel agent 2 weeks ago to book any flight to anywhere over Chuseok, best I got was a stand-by on a flight to po-dunk China...and I'm still on standby. |

I got a flight last week to Tokyo, so there may be a few flights left, but you just might have to shorten your stay. I am going on the 2nd (can't leave before then) and coming back on the 6th (couldn't get return flights on the weekend). Flights from Gimpo were impossible to get though, all booked. I can't wait to go blow my money in Tokyo. |

Look - if a travel agent says that flights are booked out to Japan during Chuseok - I'd say they probably don't know what they are doing.
Between Korean Air & Asiana - they service 25 Japanese cities nonstop from Incheon. You could fly to any of these smaller places and then take a domestic train or bus to your preferred location.
The airline websites are still selling tickets for during Chuseok to many of these secondary airports:
Asahikawa
Fukuoka
Fukushima
Hiroshima
Kumamoto
Matsuyama
Miyazaki
Nagoya
Sapporo-Chitose
Okinawa
Sendai
Takamatsu
Toyama
Yonago
Akita
Aomori
Hakodate
Kagoshima
Komatsu
Nagasaki
Niigata
Oita
Okayama
(AND OF COURSE):
Tokyo Narita/Haneda
Osaka-Kansai |

I wanted to go to Sapporo, but the cheapest flights there are 680,000 won. That is re-fricken-diculous! It's only to Japan. |

pre book your bullet trains unless you want to waste a fortune- can't remember exactly how much but it's a substantial discount aimed at tourists. You get something like 6 tickets to use as you want ( through any decent travel agent ), kyoto and hiroshima are worth a look. maybe not worth it if you are only going to one place |
