| I am planning on going to Yonsei Uni this coming january for Korean Language study. However, it is extremly expensive and I was thinking about getting a job that would cover my living expenses....like a part time teachin job or something......I would need my E2 ofcourse to teach....but if I have an e2 can I still be a student at a university???? is there anything saying that I can't???? |

| Last time I checked, you can work 20 hours a week on a student visa. Verify this for your own safety. |

can u work part time or does a company need to sponsor you? i would think you could work part time since you're on the student visa and not an e2 |

| Do i just contact immigration then??? Also.....20hours a week....that is like 4 hours a day...which is almost the 6 hours a day I "technically" work now. so....yah.....are there jobs out there that allow you to only work 4 hours a day? |

| If it's legal for you to teach/tutor 20 hours a week on a student visa, why don't you arrange your own lessons...pay would likely be higher, too. What kind of study are you talking about at Yonsei? Is it a regular intensive Korean language programme, or sth else? |

This is only true of for-credit degree programs, not the non-credit uni language hogwon classes the OP is planning on studying. |

| I guess the big question is, come January, what kind of visa will you have? A student visa or an E-2 work visa? Regardless, my recommendation would be for you to contact your nearest immigration office and see what they have to say. |

So you will not be studying in Yonsei's Korean Language Institute? You'll be enrolled in a Yonsei degree program receiving Yonsei credit?
Enrolling in Yonsei's Korean program for foreigners and using it for transfer credit at a uni in your home country won't qualify you to teach legally. Sorry if this seems redundant, but I want to make sure you have the right info.
If you are in a degree program Immigration will allow you to work up to 20 hours a week in a language institute (the Education Department would still require you to have a bachelors degree to do this, though).
Privates would still not be legal, but you'd hardly be the first to finance Korean language classes illegally by teaching privates. |

| Okay. I guess I have it wwrong. Thank you for clarifying. I will be going to the Language Institute. Is it possible to come here on a visitors visa...since I'm from Canada we get 6 months anyway....which is the same as the Student Visa length in time right? What I really want to know is if I can get an E2 and still go to the school? Work and making money is going to be a major priority. Otherwise I cannot afford to take the intensive study program at all. I have worked and gone to school before when I was getting my degreein the first place. So....... |

Yes, you can study on a visitor visa, a tourist visa, or an E2 work visa. Since you're Canadian, you're right, there's no advantage to getting a student visa. You'd be putting yourself through extra paperwork and paying a fee for no reason.
Hopefully you can find a job that will provide you with an E2 and a schedule conducive to studying at Yonsei. I worked part time while I studied at Sogang University (similar workload), and while my boss was OK with giving me a schedule that let me work and study at the same time, I don't recommend trying to teach more than 20 hours a week while you are in an intensive Korean program. 20 hours is doable, but tough.

| Awsome. Then I'm going to say f-it to the whole student visa.....I will just contact the university to make sure this is okay with them. HSould be....I mean they would be getting me money regardless. As for jobs......I suppose I better start looking now. I won't work more than 20 hours.....I think......20 hours of inclass study plus 20 hrs of work will be far more than enough for me to keel over and die from stress....but I think I can do it....if all else fails.....I take a semester off of study if I really have to.....even though that would be like the LAST resort. Thank you guys for ALLLLLLLL of your help. |

That is never an option.
Legally teaching privates is an oxymoron. |

| Okay..........I wouldn't want to teach anything if it was illegal. I don't want to be deported...since I like living in Korea. My friend said that I can study and work at the same time on an E2 and so I think that is my best bet. |
