| Yeah.. to quote David Cross: What up with that? A Korean woman's name is Sun? How stupid. And her husband's name is Jin? I guess Sun Min and Jin Ook would be too much for the audience to handle. Gees. |
If you listen to them speaking in Korean, they do have regular-length Korean names. I think Jin is really Jinsoo or something, and I forget Sun's full name. It's annoying how everyone feels the need to reduce Korean names to one syllable. |
are you sure jin and sun aren't their family names? |
I checked and I'm sure.

For Sun, it seems that's really her name. I've known quite a few Koreans with single-syllable names. My wife is named Jung and she has a sister named Jin and a brother named Min. These are kind of freak names, and when she introduces herself to another Korean, they usually ask her why she didn't say her full name. |

| If I was on the island with them I'd make a point of going through as many as possible. It's not like any of them are clearly unhittable. |

It's a hard call. Really hard.
Based on looks alone, I'm gonna say Claire, the blonde Australian lass. She is an image of perfection. Second runner up is Anna Lucia, the Hispanic. She's a hot hottie with a bottie to tot. |
Hmm, for some reason the whole "baby" thing put me off Claire. Anna would make a great one-nighter. But Kate all the way... she was actually picked by producers for her "better than sexy" look... she's original, even though some guys might think too buff or whatever. She's from my home city too! |

Think about the reality of living on an island for several months. First of all, their legs are going to look like mine. Same with pits. They will undoubtedly be stinky, as would I. As soon as you take off either one of our pants, the other is going to pass out from the smell. Between the legs is going to be a veritable wundergarten of pubus. All of which makes Q a very flaccid islander. |

The hottest chick on the island is a blonde American all right, but not Shannon. It's Libby:
I can't believe everyone here missed the boat on this one!
Too bad she's dead.
I'm left with no choice but to lust after Kate while I wait for Libby to appear in flashbacks. |

Can't say I agree. Take a look at her mugshot. Mugshot photography is the most honest kind, much more honest than even passport photography.

Have none of the geniuses on this board figured out that the two Korean characters on the show have single-syllable names in order to make their names easier for the culturally savvy North American audience? Here's some data I gleaned from my latest ethnographic survey:
Jean from Toronto says: "Jin-Su? What the hell is that, eh? Might was well be Jin-Soup, eh buddy? Heh-heh. Oh, Jin? Well that's OK and easy to remember when you're oot and aboot."
Bobby from Brooklyn says: "Sun-Young? Who the *beep* cares how fuckin' old she is? Waddya say? Her name is Sun? Well, that's nice. Makes me think of light summer days. But throw that young on there and fugeddaboutit--ya can't even say it anymore. And Jesus Christ--look at her sweet ass! Tell me you wouldn't tap that..."
Schmucks. All of you. |

My vote goes to Sun. To be fair, I think Kate is the best-looking, but for me she's just too good-looking. Sun, on the other hand is a very cute, ordinary woman. As an earlier poster said, Anna is too butch; and the two blonde girls are unbelievably whiny and annoying (although Claire is cute, too).
Surely there's something to be said for the mad French woman, though? She's a real woman while most of the rest are just 12-year-old wannabe starlets. |

No, that hasn't occurred to us, or even been directly stated in the thread yet.

| Village idiot: Qinella for not distinguishing between Shannon and Libby. |
I considered Libby too minor a character to be included. She didn't even start having a serious role until the episode where Hurley (definitely in the running for hottest guy on the island) had his hallucinations.
Also, about Sun, I just checked lostpedia (http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Sun) and it says her name is Sun Kwon. Her parents' names were Mr. and Mrs. Paik. Isn't this a little strange? She and her husband have the family name? Is this another thing they changed for American viewers? |
