My friends and I were kicked out of Harlem (a club) in Gangnam last Saturday for sitting in the reserved section even though all the seats were unoccupied. We reluctantly got up from the seats, but the bouncers responded with unnecessary violence. One bouncer head locked my friend. Another bouncer grabbed my girlfriends arm, twisted it and then shoved her. That same bouncer pushed and shoved me down to the ground (Im only 56 and weigh 120 pounds so I wasnt any threat) and in the process, my watch, which was a gift from my sister got broken. I also have a scar on my elbow as well as a bruised back from this incident. All of this violence could have been avoided.

I didnt realize my watch was broken until the next day. So I went to Harlem with a Korean friend Wednesday night to settle the matter. I wanted my watch fixed or replaced, since there was no need for the bouncer to shove me to the ground. Unfortunately, they would not meet my request. Their reason was that they had no proof that the watch was broken that Saturday night.

The watch was not that expensive, but that is not the issue here. I dont want adoptees / kyopos / other foreigners to be taken advantage of just because we cant speak Korean. I feel like the only way for me to get the owners attention (since he wont speak to me directly) is to boycott all the Harlem/NB clubs (since they are all owned by the same person) until this mattered is resolved. In fact, because of the way I was treated, I dont plan on going to any of those clubs ever again. I ask you to join me in this boycott to show that we will not be walked all over. Please tell all your friends (Koreans as well) about this unfortunate situation. If you have any other ideas on how to settle this matter, please let me know. Thank you all for your support.

Jeremy

You don't have to tell me twice. I don't go to those clubs anyways, based on general lameness. But NB and Harlem are competitors, right? Don't they have different management?

I stopped going to NB when they started charging higher entry fees for foreigners. Plus, if you wanted to see a fight in Hongdae, outside NB was always your best bet.

If you tell me a club (anywhere in the world) where the bouncers don't act like dicks then I'll gladly go there.

I've heard much worse stories and to be honest I think you need to dry your eyes.

Likewise, but to be fair it can be scary stuff the first time it happens to you.

I think a boycott would basically be giving them what they want. It seems like the management has been taking severe steps to make it a very uncomfortable place to go as a foriegner.

They want to pack the club full of Michael Boltons (Office Space) who love to look the part, but cross the street whenever they see a black guy walking towards them, that's fine with me.

The fact that there are always TONS of hot gals that pack the places on a Friday or Saturday night in Gangnam is the only reason I'll ever walk in the door.

Maybe what needs to be done is to get as many foriegners as possible gathered together and go there as a gigantic group, basically outnumber the regulars.

That would be a riot. Kind of an anti-boycott boycott.

If somebody organizes it, I'm in. Seriously.

It's a nice idea but in Hongdae those clubs are so full it takes 20 minutes to walk 10 metres.

Well, the best time would be after a payday. Saturday would be better. There would have to be a meeting spot beforehand, because it would look sort of silly if only one or two guys go there and are stuck waiting for hours.

I'll go there with my Korean friends. I kind of like getting stared at/mad dogged for dancing with a hot Korean all night and knowing I'm there with a bunch of Koreans.

I'm in for the "all-foreigners" night, tell me when and where.

By the way, how big are the bouncers there?

For a small bar, this might have some impact, if only to annoy the bar owners, but you might want to check out NB on the weekend before you start making suggestions like this.

And anyway, even if it worked it would just be an Oktoberfest*.

Good policy. Especially as they usually suck anyway. Smaller clubs have a better atmosphere and usually cost less.
