|
|
Okay, I will be arriving in Korea on August 26th. When I get there I will be staying at a hotel while I choose my own apartment that the school is paying for. Now I have seen on a few different threads that it is a good idea to bring a set of sheets. My question is what kind of bed am I more likely to end up with, a single or a double? I sure hope it is a double, single just reminds me too much of my dorm days. |

My (Korean) wife buys 100% cotton, high-quality, high-threadcount sheet sets from various internet shopping sites here in Korea for about 1/3 the price you can get them in Canada or Australia. Standard duvet-cover, fitted-bottom sheet, two pillow-case sets.
I would assume you can purchase the same in the shops (and in fact have seen them in EMart), so I don't know why people would recommend that you bring them. |

i brought double bed linen with me even though i knew i'd get a single bed, it fits just as well and when i get to upgrade (ie find a double or queen tossed out on the side of the street) then i'm instantly ready to upgrade.

But ordering off a Korean website or trying to find sheets at a department store is not te easiest thing to do when you've just arrived in the country! I bought a flat and fitted sheet & 2 pillow cases with me from Australia and they cost $AUD20... I got to use them the first night I arrived and didn't have to deal with icky handmedowns. |

Fair enough. But I wouldn't bother bringing more than one set.... |

And it also depends on which city you're going to... I was in a pretty rural area my first trip to Korea and it was hard to find anything. It's not hard to find anything (except Turkish Delight!) in Seoul... but if you're taking a job in the sticks... |

Turkish delight, Hmm, I had some over a year ago when I first arrived, but the devil's taken my memory of where. Pretty good though.
Oh, sheets- don't bother, there's a sheet store on every corner in Seoul, I'd be more concerned at the state of the mattress- the one I got was a shocker |

Yeah and if you get a double in all likeliness it's only going to be a few inches wider than the single. It's horrible in summer with 2 sweaty human heaters in those things. |

I strongly agree with both these. The single bed sheets from AUS, USA, ENG, or whereever are usually not going to fit the bed here in Korea. They will be too small.
I would be bring one set of double sheets, and buy some sheets here in Korea ASAP, as there are very few clothes dryers, here and most clothes take 2-3 days to dry.
Just my 10 won opinion |

Is it a regular mattress or a "yo" (Korean style futon). |
