| I'm in Canada now but I was teaching in Korea 8 months ago. I just received and email from my friends girlfriend telling me how my friend was jumped by about 8 Koreans. The beat him so badly that he is now sitting in a hospital with a brain hemorrhage. How did the police handle this attack? they took statements from the only the Koreans. Were there any witnesses to the attack? Yes, they were chanting "Go Korea" as if it were a soccer game. When I was in Korea I had a great experience, I couldn't believe how well we were treated and I couldn't wait to go back. He is teaching children English and this is what he gets. Just thought everyone should know, I'm not sure what I can do to help him, but I'm sure the more people know about this incident the more likely authorities might get off their asses to do something about it. |

| That's awful. I hope he'll be able to recover. Was he just minding his own business and they jumped him? I've been in Korea for a year and my experience so far has been pretty good. I've only had one racist confrontation and that was on a bus. A couple of guys that had way too much soju were threatening me. I wasn't too worried as they were drunk and I probably had 30-40 pounds on these guys. But, to be fair, the other Koreans on the bus intervened on my behalf. They seemed embarrassed by these clowns. Koreans are pretty good people but you get racism here just like anywhere else. Eight against one...........what a bunch of cowards. |

| Read the thread Racists Attack? You decide. Some good information on how you or (if possible) your friend should notify the Canadian embassy and warn other Canadians of potential attacks. I have had over 5 friends do so already regarding similar incidents (either on the street, or inside of pubs or clubs). |

| These attacks suck. Maybe the key, if you know you are going to get your @$S handed to you, is to latch onto one of the attackers and take out as many of his senses as possible. Eye gouge, tear off ears (only requires 9 kg of pressure), bite through his neck. If all foreigners go ape-$h!t on one man, maybe the attackers will think twice as they may be the one who gets torn. Just a thought. |

I'm not going to assume everything the OP said is correct because this is second hand info. I do hope your friend recovers though. I have to agree with others that it would be nice to hear more details about this.
There's something to be said for walking away from a fight in Korea, especially if it's 5 or 8 to 1. Which would you rather be a chicken or a patient drinking through a straw in a hospital? |

| No matter what happened, there's no excuse for 8 guys to attack one guy. I hope his embassy has been informed. |

Yes, there is. If you're a young punk and are afraid of getting your ass handed to you in a fair fight. Korea isn't the only place this happens, but it seems to happen here a lot. |

Not fighting fair is lame, lame, lame. I say if you can't take the heat, you shouldn't be starting fires... You'd think these guys would've had that drilled into them with all the Tae Kwon Do/martial arts training... |

Guys this is not a Koreand thing. Back home it happend enough.
And i suggest you do not attack the weakest but the strongest, if you can pull him out early in the game the total damage will be less because others will start doubting.
Once the strongest is down, they will be less aggresive creating more opportunities to bring down just one more.
Once you have 2 down, they stop and retreat. |

Yep! I was attacked by 4 dudes(pussys) once. I picked up a rock and nearly cracked the biggest dude's head open. One down. As I was running from 3 dudes, the little but faster one caught up with me which was very easy to handle so I gave him a nice little face job. Two down. And the rest two? They picked up their wounded and were busy taking care of them. And I booked. |
