I keep hearing these human rights groups complaining that America uses torture.
What is torture?
To me, it's drilling holes in people, taking out eyes, etc.
Waterboarding? That's not torture.
Sleep deprivation? I think not.
Loud noise, cold rooms, etc? Let's be serious. |

Try to do an experiment....
For this, you'll need to find the highest quality headphones out there....Put them on your ears, and play Milli Vanilli, or a jihadist speech in Arabic, or random beeps that sound like a modem dialing, and leave it on for hours and hours and hours...
Or get some friends you trust, and have force them to keep you awake for two weeks....Anytime you're falling asleep, they'll throw cold water on you, or burn you or shock you, and there'll always be a super bright light shining in your face....
You probably don't think that the chinese water torture is torture either, where drops of water drip onto your face, while your head is clamped into place, but I doubt you could stand that for very long either... |

Well, I saw a story on 60 minutes that said some U.S. soldiers "pulpified" a POW's leg by kneeing him several times in the thigh. Soldiers would do this all day to him while he had his hands bound over his head.
In the same report, with regards to torturing POWs, the soldiers were told by Donald Rumsfeld, "Get information any way you can."
In defense of the military, lots of high level commanders are against Bush's intention to redefine what the U.S. gov considers torture to be. |

One of the worst examples of torture I've ever heard of - so bad because it was less flaboyant, more down-to-earth than the eyes being gouged out-type stuff.
What and where? Saudi Arabia, cop shop. Guy gets arrested, accused of something (I think alcohol smuggling). Cops keep him awake, awaiting confession. Every time he falls asleep, he gets punched in the face really hard. He was kept awake for days.

Here's how waterboarding works:

Torture doesn't have to leave permanent marks on a person. I'd say waterboarding, sleep deprivation, loud noises and so on are more effective than drilling holes or poking eyes. The most effective form of torture I hear is sensory deprivation. If you don't think it's a big deal, how about you try it and get back to us? |
