| my boyfriend is terrified of flying. i want him to visit my country, but he won't fly there. anybody heard of trans-pacific sea routes? |

You can book passage on a freighter going from Incheon or Busan to Seattle, SanFrancisco or LA. It is Usually MORE expensive than flying (up to triple depending on the length of the route they take) and can take up to 30 days or more. IT is NOT a cruise ship and the amenities are quite limited.
You will usually get a cabin with a double berth, head (toilet with shower) TV and VCR. Meals are included and usually served every 4 hours or so (round the clock). The food is often similar to what you would get in a college cafeteria or military messhall. Simple but adequate.
Get him some valium or some other sedative from his doctor and take him on a plane. The travel is done in 12 hours and he can sleep his way through it. |

wow.. 30+ days in a freighter ship going across the sea vs. 12-hour plane trip.
can't imagine being that afraid of planes to consider that. |

I don't think it's 30 days. 7 days from west coast to Pusan sounds more reasonable. There are some schedules somewhere I found.

Actually I said, "up to 30 days" and the site quotes 12-28 days. Call me a liar for 2 days... 
And the typical cost is about US$100 per day., |

I was looking at the same thing last month.
Here is an exact costing for Busan to various US ports:

You then have to add on travel to and from your US port and Busan as well as port taxes.
You would have to be an extreme airophobe or extremely rich to put up with the time and costs of sea travel. |

Not to mention having to put up with these types.
Quite a price for a one-way voyage. How about stowing away aboard a Portagee tramp steamer? Don't they have those anymore? |
