Does anyone know? How much for classes taught every day instead of three times per week or two times per week? |

It completely varies. At my old hogwan it was W130,000 / month for three 35-minute lessons a week with a Korean and three with a FT. Many of the parents deserved a refund for what they were actually getting. My friend owns a small hogwan where he does 2:1 or 3:1 work with students - they get four 1-hour lessons a week and he charges W300,000 / month. They're getting their money's worth. |

Chinese lessons cost 120000 a month for 5 50 minute classes a week. I had checked out YBM's prices too and they aren't that expensive really, well atleast for me, and after seeing what they charged people for my classes in Japan |

120,000 a month which is 4 x45 min classes with a K teacher a week, and 1 x45 min class with me a week.

165000 for five fifty-minute classes. Two with a foreigner and three with a Korean, or vice versa. |

My school charges 230,000 won for ten '40' minute classes.
Works out roughly at 5,750 won per lesson.
5 classes per week with a foreign teacher. |

Students were paying roughly 280,000 per month at my old hagwon, for 6 Konglish teacher classes and 3 white person classes a week. (The rate was less if they only went twice a week). That included the textbooks for each of their 3 classes. Each class---listening, grammar, white person---had 2 or 3 books plus tapes. Books cost anywhere from 70,000 to 100,000 per semester. |

Kindergarten students pay about 450,000 won at my school, which includes an hour with the Korean teacher, an hour with me, lunch, and an hour with the kindergarten teacher.
For elementary students who go 5 days a week, it works out to about 250,000 won, I think, for 70 minutes split between the Korean and myself. |

My school charges around $1,000,000 Won a month for Kindergarten students. We cater to the wealthy in Kangnam and Bundang... too bad they don't pay us more than the average school. |

So, kindergarten, (aka, babysitting/day care), is big money? More than actual classes? |

The government doesn't provide any kindergarten, so parents see it as the only way to give ECE-aged children a head start. Prices and quality really range, of course. At hogwans that have a combined kindy and elementary programme the kindy kids are by far the most imporant as they represent millions of future won. |

My school charges 170 000 for 12x80 mins, 40 with a korean, 40 with a native speaker. This includes bus service. I think kindergarten from 10am-2:30pm is about 500 000. |

That's why kindergarten is such a big deal. They need white day care workers, er, I mean TEACHERS, to take care of their money, er, I mean students.
Kindergarten kids in Korea do learn one English phrase- "sit down"- I've had to say that to kindergarten kids SO MANY times they know it, by now. |

So, the profit margin for these classes must be VERY high? |

It really depends. Some are just raking it in while others are going bankrupt. Some hogwans have very high overhead and can't keep picky customers happy. |
