It seems the westerners I pass by lately are usually pretty tall and lean (the men anyways). Probably average about 6'2 for the most part. Most could stand to hit the gym Razz but regardless I haven't seen many short people lately. So out of curiousity I wanted to know what the average height here is.

I'm 6'1" (like people care) I know one poster, Mithridates, is a lot taller than me. But looking around Itaewon, I don't feel like 6'2" is the average.

And is it me or do most guys lie about their height? Everytime I meet a guy who says he's 6 feet, he's like 3 inches shorter than me. It's kinda ridiculous since we can see with our eyeballs how tall a person is and some fake number isn't gonna suddenly influence our opinion of how tall the person is.

On the internet I'm 6'5. If only that was reality, I'd be playing a professional sport.

5'10" so I feel abnormally tall here. Also at a size 10 very big... but my perceptions of women's bodies has changed vastly in the time I've been here.

I'm 6' 8" (or where ever the heck those quote things go) and male, and I could stand to hit the gym. I'll be starting a grueling routine of treadmill jogging and cycling to lose an unwanted couple of kilos...it won't be long before people are fleeing in genuine terror instead of that mock "look it's a foreigner" terror.

My wife's husband dropped dead at 41 of a heart-attack, she's convinced I have to shape up to avoid the same fate. On average, I'm pretty slim for an American.

I measured in at 193cm at my last medical check. I think that translates to about about 6feet 5ins. Korean people tell me on a daily basis that I am "very tall".

6 ft / 183 cm

With the shrimp dude gone, there's only one short Korean guy at my office. The rest are all quite tall, and I think the boss man is taller than me, but I never pay attention.

6' 2"

One big difference I've noticed from when I was in Korea ten years ago to today is how much taller Koreans are. Ten years ago I stared across the tops on heads on the subway. Today there are almost always at least one or two people whose heads block my view.

I agree. I am 62. I get a lot of comments about being very tall. I find this surprising because as far as the people of Asia, it seems to me Koreans are taller than average.
