I have a char-rye food placement thing I'm doing. I'll upload the pics in a bit. I got it from the pack I receive each season from one of the bookstores.

Seems cool but, what do you w/ the pics? What's the lesson. I was thinking of doing something on the American Thanksgiving as the Koreans already know about Choosok. Any ideas on this??? Very Happy

Teach them to worship English teachers as much as they do their ancestors!

I just used it with my adult class. I taught the vocab. Made them explain why it faces North. Asked them about Chuseok activities and taught vocab for ancestor, grave, etc. They are all women, so I had them explain what is easy to cook, difficult, etc. Interestingly, none of them liked Chuseok.

Koreans know about Chuseok, sure, but they dont know how to express the details in english. My students get a kick out of being able to describe their familiar customs & foods to me but these things are rarely dealt with in textbooks. I make a point of teaching terms like persimmon, chestnut, bean sprouts & tofu to all my students each year. It interests them.

Whats the lesson? I might just write Chuseok on the board & have them brainstorm any associated vocab they already know. Then focus on traditional foods, which they can often describe if not name.
Then give out the handout. Have them identify/translate what they can. Lots of potential followup questions -- talking about ingredients, how do you make .., whats your favorite .., etc.

I think its a great little page I can use. Thanks for sharing.

I have the Mr Bean clip where he tries to stuff a turkey and then gets it stuck on his head. Was that the one you were thinking of?
