| Just so I'm clear on this, the sexually assaulted part indicated in the thread's title, was when a drunk guy tried to reach for another guy's *beep*? Someone please tell me that there is more to that story that made a guy drop a word like 'sexually assaulted' on something like that. |
Gotta agree with Chronic here but that didn't really sound like sexual assault....harrasement Ok but not assault.
Still wasn't a good situation though |
Let's pretend my friend is female. Same situation. Gets on a subway, gets harassed, then the guy grabs her vagina. Is it sexual assault then? |

Yes, that could legally be deemed sexual assault. If you actually want to talk legal semantics now, the same could be said about a guy on a subway grabbing another guy's dick. The fact there was an 'almost' in the original story and from that you took a kneejerk ballet leap all the way to 'not harrassment. He was sexually assaulted', is the real pathetic part. And just from that and the other drunk story, you're leery about coming back to Korea, despite your oversight of the support that he had on the subway from all those other Koreans. There is no objectivism in your position and it reeks of bias. That's another reason why I found your "he should take a shower, because he must feel violated" take on the story to be pathetic. It's like you had a strong bias to begin with and were looking to jump on anything to keep running with that bias, even if it meant that you had to jump into a dumptruck full of baby dolls and pink plush toys. |

What about if he almost does...is it sexual assualt then????
This is what happened in the situation with your friend...
Lets break it down hey...
1.Man is obviously drunk and is bothering your friend
-Not good I'll admit and can be annoying
2.He basically tells your friend to sit up for the two girls who are standing
-Not an unreasonable request even in the drunken mans state
3.Drunk continues to ramble on and points a shoe
-Should have been some warning signs to move seats there - look i know it isn't good but common sense should prevailed...in any country if a drunk did that you would move, why in Korea must the foreigner stand his ground...it is dumb, he is drunk
4.Your friend calls him MICHINOM
-Really dumb and could be constued as verbal assault in your view
5.People start laughing at him
-Did your friend think it would make him more placid...
6.He loses it
-Well of course he would, if somebody called you MICHINOM and started laughing at you would you be happy....you would on here ranting about discrimation against foreigners.
7.He tried to attack one and failed..
-BIG WARNING...MOVE YOUR SEAT or GET OFF!!!
8.
| Quote: |
| without warning, he was up like a flash and was reaching with a fist for my mommy and daddy parts, my johnson, my tally wacker, my family jewels, my pride and joy, my trouser snake, my main vein, my beep, my one-eyed-monster, my weiner, my *beep*. he had pushed aside the circle of girls and went straight for my privates. I swatted his fist away and yelled 'WHAT THE *beep* ARE YOU DOING?? SIT THE *beep* DOWN!! ANJA (SIT)!!! YOU REALLY ARE CRAZY!!! |
-and this is the sexual assualt you speak of???? Where is the assault here??? Yes, he is crazy but he didn't assault you in any way...attempted harrasment maybe....
To be honest your friend really did provoke that situation a little.....I'm no Korean apologist but it could happen at anywhere at anytime....
Ypour friend needs to excercise some more common sense and better judgement...the guy was drunk, what was your friend thinking???
Don't get me wrong...the situation that your friend was in was pretty silly and if I was in that situation i wouldn't be happy and maybe wouldn't be using my full common sense either but your friend is at fault to some degree as well and the situation could have been easily averted |

Talking of bad subway behavior, you see plenty of it on the tube in London, only a bit more threatening.
Yeah, korea has its mouthy ajjoshis, but you don't feel the real threat you do in the west. Someone could be stabbed to death on the subway in London and people would just continue reading the paper. The potential there is more violent than just embarrassing/unpleasant. God knows i'd never even travel by train in S.Africa or Zimbabwe anymore. Australias another place where altercations are fairly likely to end in a serious assault, likewise ireland. And they wouldn't point their feet first or make a girly move for your goolies either.
All I can say is I've always felt fairly safe here. Irritated by some dumb behavior:, but safe. |

Korea is the safest country I've ever been to. Beyond doubt. As Rapier knows, my home city of Belfast suffers from frequent, random violence which makes walking in some parts of the city a fearful experience. Seoul is the opposite.
I do think women get much more harassment here than men though. |

I can't believe you would title a thread about sexual assault, making us think that something serious actual ocurred, when you are really just freaking out over absolute nonsense.
That's not sexual assault. That's a crazy guy on a subway. There are crazy guys on subways in every city, not to mention drunkards, drug users, and obnoxious frat boys. I suggest you expand you horizons and stop making a big deal out of every little incident you hear about. Grow the hell up.
If it happened to a woman, it would still just be one crazy guy on a subway. Every woman I know (including myself) has been groped at least once when we would have preferred otherwise. I don't claim that I've been sexually assaulted. You're belittling people who have actually been assaulted. Your friend was inconvenienced. There's a big difference.
Reading this board would lead one to believe that foreigners here are overly-sensitive, sheltered, whiners. |
