Just like the title. Well, do ya?
AFN radio sucks in every possible way, but as I scan the dial, I can't find any other English-language stations that play music- just ESL programs.
I'd love to hear of another choice.

Thanks.

Here in the land of ultra-cheap broadband, I just listen to the thousands of radio stations on the net. TV too, for that matter. Haven't turned on the radio once in all the years I've been here, I don't think.

Crikey, I just realized that.

I thought The Eagle was decent enough, but then I've never cared much for ANY radio station, so I have pretty low expectations.

It's the way that the DJs mix their music- one second I'm listening to some hard-core inner-city rap, crap, and the next I'm listening to Celine Dion.
As for the internet: great if I'm in the room with my computer, but I like music in other parts of the house too. And right now my CD player is broken. (and I CAN"T STAND Tom Joyner)
I remember being in Taiwan 7 years ago and it took no time to come across at least two english radio stations.

Grumble, grumble.

Sounds like you don't have a computer at home so you are pretty well screwed.

I'm outside of Seoul so AFN doesn't tune-in well over here.

Invest in a laptop and buy some speakers.

Try Yahoo! LAUNCH advertised on my signature.

I've heard that Jeju-do is getting a privatized English radio station. Korea needs more of those. It will be a long time coming, however.

So, I guess the short answer to my question is, 'no'.
I DO have a computer with speakers, but my entire apt is not wired to my computer, so I can only listen to it in one room.
Ah well, I guess I'll survive.
At least I still have Mr.Park's 'word of the day' to look forward to on AFN

How big is your apartment? I have a 24 pyoung 3 bedroom apartment and if I turn up the volume I can hear the radio in anyroom. I don't even have good speakers, I just have the crappy ones that came with the system.

Hey KCK,
My apt (pronounced appptttt) is about 35 pyoung. And the difference between 'hearing' the music and 'feeling' the music is vast. I love to listen to good music loud.
As a said, my CD player just broke so I'm just SOOL. Crying or Very sad

Ta.

If you're in the Seoul area, 90.3 is a Korean station that is OK sometimes. They don't go too heavy on the Korean pop. Their mix runs the gamut from classical, to 80s music, to oldies, to Top 40. The DJs speak Korean, but that doesn't really bother me.

I switch to it sometimes when I'm about to stick knitting needles in my eardrums after hearing AFN Radio's heavy-rotation format and Tim and Toms Adventures as They Explore Korea one too many times.

You don't like Tim and Tom? c'mon! that's gold, baby.
What two guys do you know that would get upset at going into a bar and seeing two girls dancing together? Wink

Tim and Tom were funny... the first 50 times I heard them. They need to make some new ones, or pull them for something different.

My favorite is the "change your money before you leave base" one. Tim could be buying dinner, or a pair of sunglasses, or a hat, or pretty much any product or service available in the ROK in order to make their point. But what do they choose in order to make their point? That's right, Tim is shopping for hookers!

Even worse, he's giving himself the most horrible exchange rate possible in Korea, offering her $80 for a W60000, um, "service charge", and she STILL won't take his hard-earned US dollars.

So he's trying to pick up the dumbest hooker in Korea, offering her almost double the "going rate". And fails. Laughing

Thunder AM - 1530.

More talk shows. The Jim Rome Show on my way home from work is one FUNNY FUNNY show. I don't even care for sports that much, but this guy cracks me up, and the reception is better than Eagle FM.

I know what you mean about Eagle FM mixing hardcore rock with some rap, then with some other music. IF you listen to it in your car, realize that 5-6pm is usually the all request hour, so they play what people request. Since it is the only radio station playing music in the morning (on the way to work) or in the evening (on the way home) it is all you can choose from. Oh you can request stuff too 0505 72eagle i think is the number.

The Korean radio stations talk, talk and still talk...they probably have 10mins of music an hour and 50mins of talking...I hate them all.
