I loathe those "Famous Dead Person RIP" threads and am not comfortable starting one myself, but this one has an interesting story to it. Iva Toguri D'Aquino was the American citizen convicted of treason and jailed for six years for participating in wartime English-language propaganda broadcasts for NHK/Radio Tokyo. She passed away yesterday in Chicago at the age of 90.
Forget what you might have believed about "Tokyo Rose", and watch this 60 Minutes documentary from 1976, here: http://www.earthstation1.com/Tokyo_Rose.html
It's in Real Video format - scroll midway down the page for the link.
Fascinating but really sad story. I think the government should have given her 10,000 dollars back. |
