My uncle played on the Red Wings with Gordie Howe and always talked about how awesome he was and how tough he was. |
A Gordie Howe hat trick- a goal, an assist and a fight.
Who was your uncle? |

That's some pretty good hockey genes you got there. Crozier was always a premier goalie-I remember he replaced Sawchuk. I was shocked when he passed a few years ago since he was only a few years older than me. Isn't there an NHL trophy in his honour? I don't know for a fact but I'm sure he won a few for himself. |

Yeah, there is the Roger Crozier Award for the goalie with the highest Save %. He passed away in 1996, can't believe it was 10 years ago. When he played he won the Calder and the Conn Smythe, but never the cup, too bad. |

's funny, I love reliving the Miracle on Ice like every other true-blooded, patriotic American, but I'd always cheer for Russia over Canada.
Then again, I'm too young for the Cold War and am currently wearing a "Kovalchuk Army" shirt |

I remember that game very well, I was at home watching it with some friends, we were really looking forward to the game because a friend of ours was playing for team Canada.
Our buddy David Latta was on the ice and said it was absolutly crazy. There was no regretting the actions of the Canadians, David said after in the dressing room the coaches were not mad but said they did the right thing.
Last summer back in Canada I met David and two other friends for a round of golf and the brawl came up in conversation as you can expect, we all reminisced a little and he said he still doesn't regret the moment he jumped on the ice.
A classic Canadaian / Russian battle indeed. |
If I remember correctly, the players all got gold medals anyway.... I think Harold Ballard bought them??? |

Just curious, is this an anti-Canadian thing... is it a wanting to see the best team lose thing ... or do you just like the poossy style hockey that the Russians used to play? |

Oh, yes, anti-Canadian. Hockey-wise. But cheering for Russia over everyone but the US has more to do with personal ties to Russia than anything. |
