Yeah, BB, Dogbert hates England and the English so much one could be forgiven for thinking he's French.

By the way, speaking of not travelling overseas, is it true there are tens of thousands of Englishmen the Queen actually forbids from leaving the country during major international sporting events? I think I read that somewhere.

Yes. This has happened very recently.

BTW, dogbert. I think you will hate me IRL - I am British and speaks with a somewhat *perfect* queen's accent.

Razz

In your case, I wouldn't care if you were speaking Cablinasian -- it's all good.

BTW, could you please post your photo again? Thx in advance

When Americans talk, I can't take them seriously. They all sound like the belong on the Jerry Springer Show. This is mainly because British TV likes to portray America as being intellectually inferior. Which is is true... Very Happy

I grew up with lots of British television, so I had no problem understanding the locals when I visited last summer. However, a bus driver from Glasgow had no idea what I meant when I asked him what the fare was, and started using pidgin English and hand-signals with me.

Kermo you are not alone. I have visited Glasgow a few times in my life and I don't understand what people say there either.

On a side note, I would say American accents are easier to understand because when Americans speak they use all the letters in a word. Where as English people tend to eat the ends of their words.

Well you have got one up on me then Smile Maybe you can give me some pointers 'cos I always have terrible trouble in Glasgow.

No, no, I could understand him just fine-- he just didn't hear what I was saying as English, so tried to communicate with me non-verbally!

I can't agree with this.
It's just unfortunate that a lot of TV we get from the US is trashy and if that is all the exposure you have to American culture and its people you might think that Americans are a bit stupid.

On a side note, whilst watching TV over these past few weeks, if you are Korean and get all your knowledge about the UK from the TV. It would seem that in the UK we are all fat, drink lots, have sex with anyone and that all British children are really badly behaved. Laughing
