Papa John's is not great, but it's the best chain pizza available, in Korea or the US. Dominos, Pizza Hut, Little Caesar's, all crap. And goddamnit, Papa John's put a store on the first floor of my apartment building, and it's a 30% discount for all pickup purchases. Why oh why!?!?!

Man you totally skimped on Chanello's. That was my heart attack in a box of choice back in the day.

There was one place that made this pizza called the Inverno. It was literally a pizza on top of a pizza. That was pretty good.

"Little Ceaser's" is the most vegetarian-friendly pizza chain, but Pappa John's, Pizza Hut, Dominos, and Pizzaria Uno all use cheese without animal rennet - which is why I'm too fat...

I used to occasionally make my own whole-wheat "low fat" pizzas in the U.S... In Korea I just buy a block of Tillamook (rennetless) Monterey Jack with jalapenos and some large-sized flour tortillas from the Dandy store (same building as Hannam supermarket...)

After cooking both sides of the tortilla in a large frying pan, I'll add some decent imported tomato sauce (eg: Classico Tomato-Basil, Barilla Olives and Mushrooms/ Basil...) add some extra olives, sauteed green peppers and oregano leaves, cover till the cheese melts and pig-out.

Actually the cheese could be stir fried in some olive oil - along with tomato wedges, peppers, herbs and spices - then added to the crisp, cooked tortilla - or pita bread... Dang! - I'll never lose weight (wherever I go...)

30% eh? The one near me is 20%. So is the Pizza Hut and Dominos. The redcappizza, which I never have tried, is 15%. It's strange but I live a 5 minute walk from about 12 pizza joints. The independents, generally cheaper ones, around 10,000 for a large, tend to suck, but I have had one or two in the past that were OK. There's a new chain around here too, called Pizza School, that sells large pizzas for 5000 won. I can't see that being any good.

We have a 5000 won place outside our school and it's no worse, (if not better) than Pizza Hut et al and all the Korean chains.

Is it a Pizza Etang?

no, it's only 5000 won... That's one of the Korean chains I was talking about.

I didn't say it was good, but if I'm going to buy a pizza I'd go for the 500o won one that was just as good as the 12000 won ones. I don't buy pizza though, I just make it myself.

I've never been that fond of Papa John's. It's okay but I like Pizza Hut better.

Big time.

I've actually been pleasantly surprised by pizza in Korea, for the most part, and have even developed a taste for the less soggy corn for some sweetness over that wet pineapple (I never really liked having pizza back home soaked by a fruit).

That said, I have noticed that the hot peppers here, on a "hot and spicy" pizza, aren't hot. Odd for a country that seems to think itself soooo lovin' the spice.

And potato on pizza is just waaaay too much carbohydrate mushiness for my liking. Embarassed Gotta scape that stuff off. Gave it a chance, and it failed thoroughly.

Maybe the first two people I've heard say they like Pizza Hut in Korea. You live and learn.

Papa Johns are king. But too expensive.

Mr. Pizza does a good New York Special. But they make pizza "for women" so I can't eat it... Confused ...

Pizza Etang swing wildly from truly awful to not bad at all. My local Etang nowadays is not bad at all.

I have that problem too. Once something is marked as 'women's food' I'll do anything I can to avoid it. I just can't help it.

I had pizza in NYC (not Sbarro's) and wasn't really that taken. (Some place near the Columbia campus.)

None of the three main pizza chains are good enough to make me a loyal customer. I rotate between them and it takes me longer to get bored of them.

Here's a nice (Kosher) New York pizza:

http://www.flyingpizzas.com/

And apparently they'll even ship them by air to Korea ...

Hey, I may be up for going in on an order of 30 of those beauties - delivered here... (I think I'll also suggest this to Seoul Veggie Club prez, "Hater Depot" - we'll just make the salad and buy the drinks here...)
