Saddam: 600,000 executions over 24 years. Average = 2,083.3 per month.

About 7,000 executed bodies -- many tortured and beheaded -- have been found in Iraq in the last two months. I'm no math major but that = 3,500 per month.

2 things.
Those were just the sanctioned executions under Saddam, and doesnt take into account his other murderous endeavors.
2ndly, they were sanctioned executions, where as the insurgents and just killing without any authority. What we are seeing is sectarian violence to the extreme.
Shiite Muslims and Sunni Muslims killing one another..strange too, what in each of theire belief systems is so different to cause such a rift where as they want to kill each other?

OK, you got me. Wow. I didn't include the totals from the Iran-Iraq war, or the Gulf war, but I also didn't include figures from car bombings, suicide bombings, etc.

I'm a bit dubious what your point is about it being sectarian violence rather than state-sanctioned. Is that supposed to make it better? How are these numbers anything other than an indication of failure?
