Tough call, but I'd say LeBanner. Choi has fought bums (Akebono 3 times in 18 months), lost to Bojasky and narrowly defeated Bob Sapp, the Predator and Semmy Schilt all by decision which could have gone either way.

I'd like to see Peter Aerts and Choi Hong-Man go at it. I think Aerts would knock him out.

e.g. Stefan Leko is an up-and-rising star, but I pick Ray Sefo to be triumphant once again. Sefo has so many strengths and so few weaknesses.



Edit: Of the two commentators for MBC ESPN, one has picked Choi to win, and the other thinks Le Banner will triumph (the traitor to his nation )



Update: Ruslan Karaev has made very short work of Badr Hari. Karaev kicked Hari while he was down, and Hari was absolutely livid, even refusing to exit the ring. I can't be sure if it was deliberate, because it's possible that he was delivering a combition that included a low kick when Hari went down.

Update:

Semmy Schilt was very impressive in his bout against Bjorn Bregy, dispatching his opponent in the first round by scoring three knockdowns. Since Bregy is almost as tall as Schilt, I guess this should mute the talk that without his height advantage, Schilt would be no one special.

Karaev routinely begins to throw kicks towards opponents who are down and usually checks them just before they make contact. Maybe he does MMA on the side. It's definitely habitual.

Bregy has a long history of losses and his weins have come from sparse but very hard punches when opponents have their gaurd down. Can't pick and choose like that against Schilt.

Le Banner deserved to win I guess. It is hard with Choi because he never shows the effects of being beaten and looks fine after the fight. They need to wait until the next day to see his leg bruises and then judge the fight.

This Just In:

Le Banner has defeated Choi by decision. The first three rounds were a tie, and so it went to an extra round. I couldn't call it. Le Banner hit quite a few low kicks, but Choi usually got him in the counter-attack. I was impressed with how Le Banner didn't back down even when slugging it out toe-to-toe with the giant.

In Other News:

To my shock, Ray Sefo lost to Stefan Leko. Despite being a huge Sefo fan, I couldn't fault the judges' decision. Compared to his usual self, Sefo looked sluggish, flat-footed and dispirited.

Gary Goodridge showed a lot of guts before finally bowing out. In the first round, he took an atomic knee to the face that dropped him like a bad habit. After climbing grogily to his feet, he managed to fight through to the third round before taking another knee-lift that left him on the canvas with the mother-of-all broken noses.



Edit:

Japanese judges did the right thing by giving a decision to Chalid "Die Faust". By the end of the fight, Musashi's shiner showed the effects of being on the losing end of a war.

Ernesto Hoost should change his nickname from "Mr. Perfect" to "Mr. Magician" after he snatched victory from the jaws of defeat like pulling a rabbit out of a hat. Yusuke Fujimoto had been using his face like a painter uses a canvas when Hoost kicked out his already-weakened leg. I had to watch the replay several times before I could see Hoost's magic trick.

Paul Slowinski was taken to school and taught all about the different angles one can be hit from by Glaube Feitosa. Despite the punishment, evident in welts all over his face, Slowinski never went down or even got a standing-eight count. If you're going to lose decisively, I guess this is the way to go.

I just saw the Karaev fight again and I am sure that the fight is going to be reviewed by K-1 as the kick when his opponent was down was baloney. As I said above Karaev seems to have a habit of doing it but usually he pulls the kick just before he connects. Maybe there was a grudge as Karaev did seem to be grinning afterwards.

Badr Hari had some harsh worse for Karaev in a solo television interview, and at the press conference prior to the match Hari had this to say:

Hari: "Um, (pause) I dunno about Karaev, I guess I just want to knock him out or something. Um, (pause) I forgot my medication so I can't put it in words, um, yeah, um, about the fight, um, I have nothing to say, um, (pause) I hope Ruslan takes his pillow with him because he is going to have an early bedtime and a nice sleep. If he forgot his pillow he can ask Ray Sefo."
