Hello all, I'm just curious if PCs are the same in Korea as in the US, as far as the cable types and connectability of hardware. I'm thinking about bringing my hard drive and just buying a PC to put it in when I'm there, or maybe just buying a laptop instead, depending on prices.

Also, what are the keyboards like? Are English keyboards hard to find in Internet cafes and the like?

Cheers,
Qinella

There were some pretty funny replies, like this one from eamo:

What are computers like in Korea?

They're big green things with four eyes and a spiky tail. When you turn them on they go, 'pfut, pfut, pring!'.

Haha.

Too bad you never managed to come out of that shell.

I find it amusing that Koreans believe we can't understand things like jeong. I think it can be summed up nicely in the English word bonding. I came across it while watching the movie Showtime. Eddie Murphy said to Robert Deniro something about male bonding and in the subtitles I read the word jeong. Aha!

If you like to do pop song lessons (and I do) go over Buddy Holly's True Love Ways. That should straighten out any Koreans who think foreigners have no idea what this jeong is all about.

My first posts were dull questions and responses.

Now I'm almost completely a troll seeking attention.

My first question was about how can I take down the establishment, or something along those lines~ lol. Specifically, it was a question about protocol at the labor board or something. Problems with the hakwon motivated me to stop lurking and start posting....

Not my first, since I posted on the pre-php board, but this is the oldest that the search engine can find.

It's actually not that hard to meet non-manufactured groups here. I drank a lot of baek-se-ju at 8 in the morning on christmas day 2001 with parts of now defunct bbibbi band (best korean band now and forever) and the singer from 3rd line butterfly gave me her phone number but I was too scared to call her. The singer from no brain goes to myeong weol gwan in hongdae sometimes (maybe not that much), but even just hanging around hongdae you can see a lot of people like that.

Clearly, as with now, I was pining over Nam Sang-Ah.

My first post was to answer someone else's question about where to by running shoes or something.

Also, not suprisingly, me grammer and speling were all jacked up.

Sorry, this guy is way off. The quotes the owner used from you are, to me, a very strong indication that you are not adapting to Korean culture. I am not one to avoid confrontation by nature, but in Korea you must keep your cool at all times in the classroom and work in general. In fact, anywhere. Koreans will be offended and/or extremely uncomfortable with any outburst, unkind word, or lack of control.

Apparently, I was nicer then, too. I got gophered.

Everyone knows my first incarnation was as idealjetsam--which I gave up when it took Dave about three weeks to get back to me on an email change. I have never posted in another capacity. Sorry, Sir, I am not one of the sock-freaks.

I thought I was the only one without a sock on this board.

My first one is no longer on record... Cool

It would have been much more pleasant than my posts today, and something along the lines of where do the cool people hang out?

My first one on the Korean forum has also fallen off the end of the board. I started a thread called "Create the Ideal Poster Game" where other posters have to guess from my initial post who I am, where I come from, profession, salary level, physical features, mental illnesses, family background and my gender and/or gender identity issues. VanIslander retorted with "Is it always gonna be about you?"...

Many many people immediately thought I was your sock. Wink Seeya Arrow

My first post was as boring as the subsequent 2,853.

http://images.thetimes.co.uk/TGD/picture/0,,347510,00.jpg

However, these days I find the ever-increasing presence of morons with questions like "I am a non-smoking non-drinking English teacher from California: how will I find things in Korea?" just too much for a bof like me take.

I shall retreat quietly to a corner and have my scheduled breakdown later this afternoon so I can recover over Chuseouk.

Nope, not the only one. Hell, I hardly have any in my sock drawer, let alone extras to waste here.
