Dunno... what's the Tom Waits song..."In the Neighbourhood". It'd set the tone OK, but I'm not sure what the lyrics have to say.


Dated a life loving hippy chick with a morbid streak... Since were we going to be together forever, she instructed me to play "On Top Of the World" the Shonen Knife cover of the Carpenter's and lead everyone at her funeral in a singalong.

Sitting here in western Kentucky helping my father get the things he wants done done in his remaining time (end of year - best estimate). He's got his funeral all planned out and its going to be, unfortunately, really boring hymns all around.

For me, though, minimally:

I used to toy with ideas like 'The long and winding road' and 'Freebird' but nothing beats the above, although it seems very inappropriate reading the lyrics without the spacey, dreamy music. However, I'm not a believer in afterlife, but it's just a very beautiful song appropriate for death.

It would be Jeff Buckley warbling "Last Goodbye" for me. I get goosebumps every time I listen to this song!

I would also choose Eva Cassidy's rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."

I like the idea of a (Finnegan's) Wake. "Lovely to see you Again" by the Moody Blues is an awesome song. "I Can't Cry Hard Enough" by Victoria Williams is a beautiful tune. "Life's a Long Song" is so appropo as well. "All my Tears" by Julie Miller is a great tune that I also love.
