What are the policies concerning the criminal background check? I signed a letter saying I would get one later. I still have no idea what kind of report is acceptable? I also don't know what kinds of things will get you rejected.

Someone posted a website that asked applicants to print their own report from and online service and then mail it to Korea. Other people say they got a report from their local police department.

I'm guessing there is no policy?

The police check is a requirement of public school jobs (EPIK, GEPIK, etc.), and no, there is no official policy about what constitutes a proper background check. It doesn't help that police checks vary from state to state and country to country.

It's just a piece of paper, like your reference letters. You could have your Aunt Martha write your reference letter in German. You could write your criminal background check yourself. Noone is actually going to read them.

Chances are if they accept what you have submitted minus the background check, you'll never hear about it again anyways.

dogshed,

Just never let the recruiter do it. I have heard some first hand accounts of recruiters charging an arm and a leg to do a background check and then billing you for it.

I promised GEPIK I'd get a check later. 5 months on I've heard nothing.

I tried to get a check but it involved a lot of paperwork and hassle getting one from this end, i could fill an entire thread with the beaucracy involved.

I intend to try again later..when I have the time and energy i suppose..but meantime they haven't been pushing me for it.
