A: It should only takes 1 of us five minutes. Please stop mit ze lies.

This works best when read in a Bavarian accent.

Selbstverstandlich.

No it is not, Flotsam. Gangahjee (is that colour correct?), I saw that photo you posted elsewhere and it looks nothing like the traditional garb of Clan Guru.

Oh, who cares. Yeah, Bavaria. Sounds great! Now let me return to honing my ESL skills on another thread.

I caught Hollys Coffee being proud of their coffee:

They're huge images so I'm not posting them here.

While you're on the topic of coffee;
on one end of those long sachets of instant coffee there is a number, from 1 to 10. Someone told me that it relates to how sweet the coffee will be, i.e 1 has only a little sugar, and No.10 has lots. I haven't done any controlled testing to confirm or refute this Smile , so does anyone know anything about this?

Interesting. Ashamed to say this....but let's see... I got Maxim Well-Being with a 4, got Maxwell House Hazelnut with a 6, Maxim Original with a 10, and Maxim Hazelnut Cappuccino with a 3.

Now the testing begins and post results later!

It seems insane to me that anyone would pay good money for that worthless powdered crap they call instant coffee.

As long as you don't think of it as coffee, there's no problem. I worked in a restaurant when I was younger, and they had powdered hot cocoa---obviously---and cappuccinoasdlje (sp?). Some flavors of Maxim or Maxwell house taste like that.

And it's not good money. For about 5,000 won I can get a month's worth of instant coffee. 5,000 might be enough to buy me 1.33333 "americano"s at The Coffee Bean.

(Honestly, how can they _____ up coffee so bad? What's with this "Americano" garbage? Just buy a regular coffee maker for $8 and be done with it.)

Is instant coffee popular in Taiwan? I know they had some in my hotel room, but I also remember walking around and seeing tons of coffee shops, where a small coffee would be comparable in taste and price to stuff in the US. And, they McDonald's breakfasts.

It seems that number does correspond with the amount of sugar bar actual scientific analysis and relied on the more important senses of the human body such as sight, texture and taste of my girlfriend and myself to provide at least two seperate opinions.

By closely examining the seperate coffee products we both agree that you can make out the reflective, shiny granules of sugar. The greatest amount appearing to come from the #6 and #10 and none showing from the #3. Some was apparent in the #4.

Next was texture. The #3 had a smooth texture like powdered milk and none of the texture found in sugar. Some granules could be felt in the #4 and the distinctive texture of sugar was definitely found in #6 and 10.

Final test was that of taste. My girlfriend and I tasted the #3 first. There was a faint taste of sugar for me, but my gf couldn't taste any sugar. In the #4, there was an unmistakable taste of sugar, but not a lot. In the #6(Maxwell House), the coffee was so well blended with the sugar that the testing was difficult with inconclusive results. Finally, we both agreed that the #10 coffee had the sweetest taste with a greater amount of sugar.

So! Based on the testing of two highly qualified and professional insta-coffee testers it seems that the number on the end tab of a packet of insta-coffee does denote the amount of sugar it contains. This myth has been proven!

I would like to thank my girlfriend, my readers and endearing fans as well as my personal hero the infamous Dr. Huang Woo-seok. And all funding for this program did go straight into my personal bank account.

Did you find the mystery substance that seems to make them so addictive? Crying or Very sad

Very Happy Thanks for your dedication to the cause. I would've done it myself but I'm trying to wean myself off the stuff!

That's very amusing about the insta coffee. I like how the personal packet wrapper tubes are used as a stir stick in the paper cup. Quality stuff.

Walmart used to have an espresso machine for 40 bucks. I couldn't find one there, seems to have been offed. Has anyone seen a cheap espresso machine, electric? (I have one of those Italian, aluminium, screw-waist stovetop units but it's not the same).

About Insta-coffee. If you want to avoid the sugar it's the last thing that pours out of the personal serving wrapper tube, so hold back....damn convenient, huh?

YOU!! You sunnuvabitch!

Now I am going to be that old guy sitting at the end of the bar when the contemporary version of the Goonies comes up to him and says: "Sir? Excuse me, Sir? Is it true you once saw the Guru? Sir?" And I'll pour out the dregs from my jug of moonshine, leer a them over the shot glass and hoarsely whisper, "I don't rightly know myself." Than swallow it down and walk out the bar, muttering about Bavaria, unbelievers, Weisswein and that dirty, dirty sunnuvabitch.

For those riveted by the saga of my office espresso machine I have good news and bad news. The good news is that the original fault has been rectified. The bad news is that in attempting to re-assemble it, a further defect has been found.

Watch this space.

This is the one btw:-

In answer to original question, sometimes I make mocha squares, kind of like a brownie, with instant coffee as one of the key ingredients. They're right tasty, but I can't eat them at night.

I consider all of korea a dog park. I usually take my dog up the hill or river park and let her run. off on a tangent there. sorry.

back to this thread. I buy the Maxim 1/2 calorie instant coffee. then i add sugar.
