What a surprise!-- an editorial in the Korea Times praising a Korean tradition and advocating its spread elsewhere! Rolling Eyes

The original idea of Thanksgiving likely included a sort of thanks not only to God but also to those who came before-- at any rate, we do have All Saint's Day, for those who observe it. Nov. 1 is quite something in Mexico. When I was living there people put goods and foods on their ancestors' graves, and it might have been the only holiday in Mexico I remember when there wasn't a party or parade. It would be nice to have another day off, anyway.

Lots of places also have a set day (usually in the late spring) for cleaning/visiting the graves of family/friends which, although not a holiday, pretty much covers the ancestor thing for me.

Hmm, "No-one tells you what to do... (So I agree. Canadians should be forced to celebrate chuseok)" Confused

It is the mystery of ancestor worship.

This one is slooooooooowwwww. Don't explain things anymore, and let's enjoy the shenanigans that ensue.
