Still in the US and I decided I didn't want to chance losing some teeth to get a better deal, just curious how this compares to what I would've paid in Korea. (They were composite fillings, not metal.)

Your question is a bit confusing. Do you mean $700 U.S.?

I found a great dentist here, and the cost is much cheaper than the U.S. Most of my work has been covered by the health plan here.

Yep $700 usd, figured it would be easy to convert to won in case Canadians or others were responding. Oh well, guess I got screwed. And it hurt like a bitch! Shouldn't they have paid me to get them?

Naw, it is cheap here, but I wasn't paid for the root canal and crown I got last month! Confused

It depends on the kind of material you use.

They may want to use GOLD filling here.. in which case, it'll cost you.

Grotto might have had a dentist who used the cheapest material - i.e. the silver metal thingy that looks gross in the mouth. That's cheap and is covered by the health insurance.

If you want ceramic, then it can be anything between 30,000 to 70,000 won a tooth.

The thing is that in Korea, they don't charge you for cleaning, especially if you are having other works done. They just do it as part of the overall service. In the US, they probably charge you extra for it.

All in all, though, I'd say you've probably paid at least 50% more than what you've had to pay here in Korea.

Tzechuk is right. Silver fillings are the only ones covered by insurance. Ceramic work is pretty good here. Depends on the size of the hole but usually around 100,000 as I've been getting my silver replaced over the years.

Anybody done veneers here? There's that Osteem commercial that I've seen on TV.

I find YE clinics here a little expensive here for cosmetic dentistry.

I got a gold crown last year for 350,000. It depends on the fit. 300=good 350=best, 400=perfect. My gold filling was only 100,000. Insurance usually doesn't cover cleaning. For 50,000 you can get an excellent cleaning.

Yep it cost me exactly that for a cleaning. The guy was sorry he had to charge me so much, it took him quite awhile getting all the tartar off.

Do you mean composite? Here in the US I got one filling with a UV activated composite. I don't like the idea of mercury in my mouth. -Jeff

I'm not good at cutting/quoting/pasting, so this is ugly, but I do have some experience here.
I take care of my teeth, but after 2 teen years of full metal-mouth braces that were impossible
to clean, it's a losing battle.
I got my first gold crown in US for $450. My second was in Korea, for about 300,000 won.
It never fit right, and I'm sure it will eventually have to be replaced.
Next, a Korean dentist assured me he would personally make the crown, and it's perfect. Also about 300,000 won.
More recently, I hooked up with a dentist as my student. I had also taught his wife and daughter over the previous year.
He gave me a gold crown, cleanings, scalings, and other minor work I'm sure for less than half the going rate.
Insurance likely won't cover much, but networking is cool. Cool

The gold is surely not a fashion statement. I tend to grind my teeth, and it was decided I'd probably break porcelain/ceramic/composite crowns.

Good to know that you do not shy away from "going local."
