I have read a few of those threads on here where people have been harassed for trying to help people here in korea. I always wondered whether I would help or stand back. I guess I found out tonight, I ran on my sprained ankle on help the grandpa who had just been hit on the pedestrian crossing. I was waiting for a bus outside the supermarket and heard the thud, actually it was more of a 'crunk' sound. Looked over and saw a car stopped and the man thrown out in front of it. I thought they were going to move him so i ran down there and stabilised his head/neck and got them to wait for the ambulance. No one was actually talking to the old guy, who was semi-conscious, so i tried to tell them to talk to him in korean. The guy didn't understand and he was freaking out ( I didn't realise he was the driver). So the poor old grandpa is lying there, still breathing with a pulse and I'm talking to him in english till the ambo arrived. The ambo was one of those car type ones, they basically had a stretcher and that was it. The ambo guy said hello to the old man to see if he was conscious but didn't really do much of a primary check and no secondary check. When putting on the neck brace he rolled the guys head all over the place! Hope he didn't have any neck injuries. hope I never need to get picked up by an ambo. Ah well, I did what i could to help. I think I have that post adrenaline rush 'blah' thing going on. |

Hey well done!
but what the hell is it with pedestrian crossings here?
A few months ago I thought I'd been stood up by a student I was meeting for dinner. Turns out he was hit by a car as he was crossing to meet me and ended up in hospital.

They don't bloody look - they just waltz out into the traffic - especially the oldies. Added to that is the fact that the bloody drivers aren't looking, either! |

I wonder if the old guy was thinking "Am I dying? Is god a white guy who speaks bad Korean?" |

Ha, I thought of it as the old man thinking "The last thing in my life is a ko-jaengi speaking English to me???" |

I almost killed a korean this way.
Went to pick up some students, all of a sudden this ajoshi in orange pants jumped in front of my car, Kids yelling " Crazy man", me almost peeing in my pants of fear of killing a human being.
I was really scared cause this never happend to me before. |

Good on ya, Kiwikid. Common sense and I assume, prior training kicked in.
My first week in Korea (was it really 1997?) I saw a pedestrian get whacked.
The driver scooped him up and hauled him off before I could even think of what I should do. |
