| True. My facts were severely unresearched but the point is that the French don't really seem to mind us calling it the English Channel. |

| Actually, as long departed poster circus monkey pointed out several years ago, if it wasn't for Japan, the dispute would be about the name of the Pacific. |
Which is why I will always call it the Sea of Japan. If Japan were not there, it would be the Pacific Ocean. |

So strange. How is one to know where the hell the East Sea is?
Sea of Japan makes a lot more sense. Many people know where Japan is.
Korea just hates Japan, and wants it to get no recognition, so they are the only ones in the world who use East Sea exclusively. |

They're not. The Vietnamese do too. Whither, Vietnam? |

| The whole of Korea's argument goes "We've held a grudge." It's just based on past injustices. You can trot out as many maps as you'd like with "Sea of Corea" on it, but you can't ignore how arrogant it is to change how one language refers to a geographic feature. Call it Dong-hae in Korean if you want, I don't care. But doesn't anyone see the similarities between this and the Seoul hanja/pronunciation controversy? |
