In the end you can read as many books as you want, you will develop your own style.

For sure, I'm just hoping not to make any major blunders (feeding the wrong thing, dropping the baby, etc..)

Dr. Spock is still the master when it comes to nurturing the development of babies, toddlers, children and adolescents.

for pregnancy, i found the book, "What to Expect When You're Expecting" to be most useful.

You can go to www.whatthebook.com There are a lot of childcare books- I even found one that was about how to communicate with your baby through a kind of sign language (it was nominated and/or won some kind of award, as well)! The Dr. Spock book is really comprehensive, and time-tested.
