rteacher, he's probably right. Mike Tyson probably had one of the strongest punches ever, if not the strongest. My friend liked to say that whenever he'd bring his hand back as if to scartch his butt, you'd know someone was going down.

Eh, what the hell, I'm in.

Tyson was a big puncher. Maybe not as big as Ernie Shavers, who hit Joe Frazier so hard that Don King put the lit end of a cigar in his mouth. But still a big puncher. The biggest asset as a puncher that Tyson has is his freaky midrange sweet spot. He hits far harder at midrange than anyone has a right to, which surprises a lot of fighters. The surprise is the key to so many of his knockouts. Most knockouts, really, since in boxing its not the punches you see that hurt you, its the ones you don't see.

Since Buster Douglas laid down the blueprint to beat him, Tyson hasn't been able to adapt, and better fighters have been taking advantage.

I was thinking along the lines of Tyson at the beginning of his career. The surprise you speak of was the exact punch I mentioned, that right hook. Like you say, he's old news now. I wouldn't say he was a one trick wonder, but he throws incredibly wild punches at a long range (and always ends up leaving himself open at the end of the swing).

Sure, I'll watch Tyson do this. I've always had a thing for the circus.

22/10, that would be this coming sunday, round 9 30pm i think.

Should be good, Butterbeans fighting as well. That would be a sweet match up.

Nice.

Wonder if any Itaewon bars will be showing it.

Has anyone mentioned Butterbean's opponent yet? It's none other than Mark Hunt - could be a great match-up ...

I'm actually looking more forward to the fight between Kevin Randleman and Mauricio Shogun.

It will be interesting because Randleman is back from a two year injury hiatus. You can read the interview on Pride's homepage.

I hope Butterbean takes a fall fast, as the mere sight of him makes me nauseous.

So mike's not fighting in this one i take it? Butterbean's the man, he can take a punch and can dish them out too but his stamina is a bit dodgy.

"Butterbean's" boxing record is 72 wins, 7 defeats, 4 draws, and 2 no contests with 54 KOs. He has specialized in 4 round bouts, but he did knock down former undisputed world champ, Larry Holmes, in the 10th round en route to losing a decision in 2002 (obviously when Holmes was way past his prime...) He did stop former over-hyped Tyson opponent, Peter McNeeley in one round in 1999. I give him a slim (fat) puncher's chance against Hunt, who is famous for his strong chin, toughness and power...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Esch

I don't bother to check out the Pride website, but I've heard that despite their popularity they're on the verge of going under because of repercussions stemming from the production's alleged ties to Japanese Mafia - This has seriously jeopardized their TV outlet in Japan...

I recall Butterbean once saying something like, "At a De La Hoya match, if a fight breaks out in the audience, everyone turns to watch the crowd. But if a fight breaks out in the audience during MY match, the crowd keeps watching me"!
