I'm trying to get a round-trip back to Texas for the holidays.
The cheapest I've found back to my hometown is 1.3 million.
About two years ago before the price of oil skyrocketed, my Mom came to visit me for $673.
Does anybody know of a discount airline ticket agency that can get me to Texas and back for 1 million won or less including tax and the dreaded fuel service fee?
I tried all the travel agencies in the sticky and previous posts and none of them went below 1.3 mil. |

aint gonna happen, I haven't paid under 1.3 for years to get back to Austin in at least 3 years.
I got 1.4 on United leaving Dec 23. Northwest may be cheaper but the connections are awful (Narita, then MSP or Detroit) United is a one connection flight to Texas easy flight to SFO then to Texas
BTW this needs to be in travel |

I don't know which is driving up air ticket prices, the cost of oil or airline greed, but what I see nowadays is planes filled to capacity every time I get on one. Based on that, I wouldn't expect prices to go down in the near future. |

If you want a cheap airfare, travel before or AFTER the XMAS rush.
There are NO discount tickets during PEAK season.
9/21-12/20 travel on American to San Francisco for 571k (return) then pick your favorite cheap flight to Texas.
AFTER 12/20 you pay full fare. |

That'd be called demand. That would lead to higher prices, not lower. |

That would be called jack the high season airfares up to make a profit. It's done all the time.
1.3 isn't a bad deal though. |

Actually, the reason tickets are so expensive from Korea is because of labor costs. Stewardessing is one of the highest paying and highest profile jobs for women in Korea. Whereas in the rest of the world, flight attendants are one of the lowest paying professions you can get into, often starting at about 16k/year. Since they pay their stewardesses about 3X what they do in North America, the cost gets passed along.
Korea is odd in this regard, as they seem to make a determination that certain low-stress jobs such as pizza delivery, gas station attendant, supermarket stock boy, stewardess--should be (relatively) high-paying/family-supporting jobs. |

Prices are usually higher for round trip tickets starting in Korea than for the same ticket starting in America (or anywhere else in Asia). I have Korean friends who make frequent trips to America for work. They take the first trip to America one way and then buy all future trips as round trip from America. |

Korea is still in the 60's when it comes to flying. They think it's something special. They will pay big to to fly. Compare that to Europeans who are used to flying anywhere in Europe, North Africa and trunk routes to North America for very little. Europe invented the budget airline about 15 years ago and we haven't looked back since.
East Asia is ripe for the emergence of budget airlines. No frills flights. Cheap as hell. I'm in!! |

Now we have the financial wizard telling us tickets from Korea cost so much becuase of the salaries of their stewardesses. |

I suspect it may have something to do with the way the airline industry is regulated here. I remember reading somewhere that they actually cap the number of flights heading over to Tokyo! I for one, would love to see jet asia start doing some of the routes between seoul and SEA. |

Yes, Korea is notorious for ripping travelers off on air tickets. Last year I got hammered on a roundtrip flight to go to Nagoya for the weekend. It was 600,000 won. Not to mention, Incheon only has flights going to and from Nagoya at certain crapola times. I couldn't even come back to Incheon when I wanted to, because on Sunday, there were only two flights going to Incheon. It was either 10AM or 3PM. I took 3PM. Travel agents rip everyone off too. I met a Korean man and his wife, who told me they paid $3000 for 3 days in Bali. Buy tickets online in Korea or stay in Korea for your holidays. |

Flight attendants on Korean airlines would earn every won they get. Dealing with ajosshis and ajummas and their demands all day, you couldn't pay me enough! |
