Diane Sawyer went on TV interviewing North Koreans in Pyongyang about the US. You can imagine the answers she got. But this is foolish, they are doing the story in Pyongyang, home the NK elite who will spit the party line and those disatisfied will do so out of fear of punishment. Can yhey be so stupid not to realize this? |

What do you mean she was interviewing North Koreans in Pyonyang? From what I understand having 'on the street' interviews is just not going to happen in N.K. Diane and her producers must be aware of the hoops they were jumping through to set up any kind of an interview. The question is did she tell her viewers this was the case? |

No.
So we have to invoke the term idiot -- as the famous definition implies, doing the same thing over and over and expecting the same result. .................. I think a bit of that is happening.
But if she told the truth, she'd be back home in a flash. My own hope is that she will tell all when she returns.....so presently she is holding her breath and enjoying the state banquet tables and caviar.

I just don't know anymore........
She/ABC , have broken so many journalistic codes of conduct that I don't think anything can be redeemed when she finally gets home and tells the REAL story.
Today's diary was pathetic. "ordinary" school children, she said she talked to. Haha. And then they end up singing, "Do a deer, a female deer" together at the end, Diane almost clicking her heels or throwing up her Austrian arms...Pathetic.
Obviously censored by the North. As a journalist, any journalist concerned with TRUTH, ABC should never agree to this. No matter the end product. Disgusting and really shows how far media (America or anywhere) in this day and age, large media, is willing to go to cater to audience numbers, sensation and less and less concerned for the TRUTH.
Disgusting.

Real Story? Heh. How much do you want to bet that Diane Sawyer comes back and spins the whole thing as "North Korea isn't really led by evil people, the people really do like it, there are no camps or torture or brutality and North Korea's decrepid state is all because the mean US bullys it" |

Well I'll take the bet. a 6 pack of Heineken or something else reputable.
Travesty if you are right. But I don't think she will. BUT I still say it is wrong to even agree in the first place to this censorship. People will forget and the impression will be made. I think ABC should be held accountable and to task and be racked over the coals for this....Orwell would have been spinning.....

Could it be that she is perfectly well aware the interviewees are only spouting the party line and that she trusts her audience to know this too. After all, Americans get plenty of exposure to spin doctors. You aren't under the impression that when the chairmen of the Republican and Democratic parties are invited on Meet the Press that you will see a dispassionate and objective discussion of the issues, are you? |

I agree with the first part but strong disagree with the second.
She doesn't trust her audience to know this too......she is in the news business and this would be self-evident. I'm sorry but the news is to be told, not inferred. She is blamefully being a propagandist, whatever her ultimate intentions.
ABC is doing much wrong. Ultimately, their greatest wrong is by not giving the story context as any good journalist would. Context meaning, providing any info. as to "said" agreements and also balancing any viewing with other party's contrary views. These are just two of the journalistic sin qua nons she is breaking......
Disgusting.
