What are your feelings about Jay Z? He's coming to Seoul this Friday, but is he worth seeing?

I watched his dvd Fade To Black. He has a lot of guest stars at his concerts, but I notice there are no old school artists. Why? Because of his style of music? Or do old school artists not want to be associated with him (or vice-versa)?

He`s the second most high selling rapper after Eminem for a reason, his flow, it`s immaculate. Eminem gets there because of the outrageous and non cliche stuff he says, Hova gets there, I think, more because his rhyme style is so rhythmically sophisticated, a bit like BIG, not the same style, just both are very rhythmically innovative in there rhyming.

I find his records to be mostly forgetable like pop music. His raps seem to lack the legitimacy of Biggie and the substance of Public Enemy or KRS1. He is great in his technical skills though and gets an A+ for self promotion. I totally envy him for that skill. He's done really well considering his level of talent. Biggie was the opposite. He was super talented at rapping and writing, but maybe not as strong in self-promotion as Jay-Z.

I find it hilarious how people pump up artists after they're dead... Tupac, BIG, Cobain, fucking everyone wouldn't be getting near the acclaim they do now if they stuck around..

BIGGIE wasn't great, he was just notorious for dying (which Puffy milked for all it was worth)...

I dont know why Biggy is considered more legit than Jay Z. They both had great flow, but basically talked the gangster life and bling. Public Enemy and KRS were saying bigger things.

you have it the wrong way around!
they would be even better if they stayed around!
imagine if PAC didnt die? the lyrics and raps he would have produced!
he already has classics out there! biggie also would have wriiten more and made some classic albums! living through more experiences!
they became legends now becuase they did die early! but its because they were GREAT! EZY E didnt get the same treatment!
im my eyes he is also a great!

BRUCE LEE if he didnt die you think he would still be a legend?

I agree. Tu Pac and Biggie were just reaching their potential when they died. With today's production values, I can only imagine how great their work would have been. Most of today's rappers would be out of jobs.

Biggie was way overrated. He made good music, but as a lyricist I never found him impressive at all. Jay-z, Nas, Andre 3000 (before his tryst with Erika Badu sent him off the deep end), and Method Man are at the top of my list.

If you're a hip hop fan, I think it's worth the price to see Jay-Z live...before he retires...again.

Listen to this album. I would vote it as the best and most intense album of all time (in Rap).

just get yourselves to the gig. how often do you get a chance to see a real quality performer in the ROK?
check out his mtv unplugged cd for further proof of the guy's awesome talent. he played in london a couple of weeks ago and is BACK big time. his new album 'kingdom come' is out by the end of the month...
forget the hits, cos he has so many, the guy has real intelligence, maybe not as political as P.E but he is just as 'real'.
and anyone who gets beyonce on his arm gets my respect, for what its worth...

What B.I.G. had that a lot of "hardcore" rappers lack is charisma and a terrific sense of humor. That's partly what makes Jay such a talented emcee, too.

I went, thought it was a dope show...similar set to the one he did in 'Fade To Black' (minus the guest appearances of course), wished it would have been a little longer. Sarcasm Kills is right though, the opening acts were terrible (borderline disgraceful)...would have been nice to see Beyonce...
