I was with a group of friends at a sang-kyup-sal restaurant and I wanted a bowl of dwen-jang-gee-gay. Some other people wanted some and I'm not really fond of sharing unless I'm with a group of Koreans but this was all white people. The lady refused to sell me two bowls of the dwen-jang, she kept telling me it was Korean custom, and instead brought me one of the little metal bowls they use for rice. I wanted to kick her in the head. It ruined my night.

I use this scenario as a roleplay with my students. It's fun.

No, no. It's suh-top-uh juseyo. You know how Koreans won't understand you unless you get the pronunciation *exactly* right...

No I mean I think it's funny to use English, then Korean. Why be so noncommittal? Just in case they understand the word "stop" but can't understand "give"?

AHN-DAE!!!

You know, the all-purpose 'don't do that'. For some reason whenever I use that one I think of the guy in Austin Powers who screamed for 2 minutes to stop the steam roller from running over him.

I went to a Dunkin Donuts in 홍제동* (Hongje-dong) today and ordered a 던킨스 오리진알* (Dunkin's Original) black this morning, and no one even blinked an eye. I guess the OP just got unluckly he got served by someone with a stick in her ass.

*if I misspelled any of the Konglish, please let me know- I'm trying to learn but it's hard for a 바보 코쟁이 like me.

Hehe, at Miller Time Pub in Sincheon yesterday, we were refused draught.

Ajumma: "You must buy side dish to get tap beer. You can have bottle beer."
Me: "We just stuffed ourselves with Galbi and want an ice cold draught. How about I pay the price of a bottle, and you serve me the CHEAPER draught?"
Ajumma: "You must buy side dish to get draught."
Me: "Why?"
Ajumma: Blink. Blink. "If no eat, only bottle beer drink you."
Me: Blink. Blink. Blink. "Bye!"

My question is, how can you drink Dunkin Donuts coffee? That stuff is so watered down, and at 2,000 won a cup? They must make 1,990 profit on each cup.

The Koreans always laugh, but they've never screwed it up...
