|
|
Hi,
I'll be coming to Korea in a month if everything works out and I've been wondering about broadband services in Korea. What is the average speed of broadband and can I get 10 mbps or higher? What is the price of a higher speed line? And are there any services that offer unlimited download rates? I want a service where I can download about 150 gb per month, most don't really monitor this where I live because there's always excess bandwidth but I doubt thats the case in Korea. Any input is greatly appreciated. |

there is no monitoring of bandwidth in Korea. Earlier this week I was uploading and downloading at 5mb/s. I don't even use the highest priced plan with my ISP. |

So there's no monthly download/upload limit? Thanks for the answer, my line at home is only 1 mbps and uploading at 12 kps is impossible with a 100 mb video file. What are you paying for 5 mbps each month, if you don't mind me asking? |

I think the lowest priced internet plans start around 15,000 won/month ($15 roughly.) That gets you about 5 megabits/s download, but of course, your upload may not be as high. I just recently upgraded because my upload was only 64Kb/s. I'm now paying about 34,000 won/month for 100 megabit internet. Of course, I'm not actually getting that, the actual speed is around 70 megabits (up and down.) |

Thanks, thant sounds very cheap. I'd be willing to pay up to 75,000 won per month for the fastest possible connection. Is it easy to get broadband? How long does it usually take? Are wireless routers common in Korea ? I have laptop and a wireless network is a must, especially for the hardware firewall. |

1. Yes, it's very easy to get. In fact, they don't even have dialup here, as far as I know.
2. They usually come to install service a day or two after you call.
3. You can buy wireless routers at the large electronics markets if you want.
Last, I don't think you'll have to pay anything close to 75,000 won for the fastest service. I think some places offer 100 megabit + cable TV for around 45,000 won. (Plus they usually give you a free gift for signing up.) |

Thanks again. Wow, I'm really going to enjoy Korea if things are this cheap. A package like that here would cost about 150 euro per month and I don't think broadband that fast is even available here. |

i hear talk of ABN having 15k/month internet and i want in,
however, ABN does not service my side of town (ideogwon/pyeonchon).
and the local providers here, that my bosses know of anyway, start at 30k/month.
so, does anybody know of cheap isp's in my area, or am i stuck paying double? |
