maybe dev you are alittle confused or maybe I am reading this thread wrong.. you mean Techno as in all electronic music?
or you only talking about techno music a genre of EDM( electronic dance music)

if you are only talking about techno.. then I will say...
first of all .. yes its music!! my mate farts and its music! you string some sounds together and its music..

do I like TECHNO? its not my first choice of EDM.. actually I will only listen to it if im at an event where techno is on.. I dont dislike it.. its just not my choice..

now if you are tallking about all EDM! is that music..
then YES!! YES !! YES !! YES!! YES!!!

very much YES!!!

so many wonderful tracks from all sub genres of EDM!
trance, house, drum and bass, breakbeats, progressive and techno etc..

if you are talking about all EDM and you are not sure about it..
perhaps what you heard was not to your liking, maybe you need to just try a different genre..
have you heard trance?
give that a listen..
I could list hundreds of DJS you should listen to etc..
why not just tune into ETNFM.com listen to that station an hour or so a night for a week, give it a chance, different times have different dj sets..
so listen for about 5 hours in a week at different times.. and then make up your mind.. if that is music..

tune into BEATFM.com.au check it out on sundays at about 2pm for
SHENANIGANS...
give that a listen..
all these stations can be tuned in with WINAMP.. modern skin..under shout cast radio..

or just type in a genre and listen to it..
personally I love this music.. and I always have., from my teenage days pilling off my face and dancing to the new sounds of this music back in 92
remember when robert miles - children came out? whooaaa the E's never felt so good in the dance floor when the DJ first dropped that track in 94 or 95 AWESOME. hahhaha
anyway...
yes its music..
and I listen to it everyday...

Yes, it's music.

But I came into this thread mainly to say that Iio is pretty damn good techno/trance.

I'm sure you've heard their single "Rapture" somewhere.

I'd say house is the easiest electronic music for the non-initiated to get into. Try a Hed Kandi Disco House Compilation...

No offence...but to my ears that stuff sounds horrid. I wouldn't call that techno myself. Commercial "fluffysodapophousepants" perhaps.

I don't like that stuff either, but lots of people do. This is the problem with the term "techno." It encompasses such a large enough amount of differing styles that when you say it you can mean something as far away from another as Jazz is to Country, as Rock is to Classical, etc. etc.

For anyone interested in the breakdown of music genres within the gigantic realm of techno:

I don't like it either, and I'm a big house freak. I actually like smooth productions values and some elements of the mix, huge bassline, thick round kick drum, and a reasonable house shuffle on the hats. Not nearly enough was done with the synths to really qualify it as progressive house. There were no real builds, no filtering, no serious dynamics, no intelligent synth manipulations, and far too much of that weak vocal. I prefer big phat black wailing soul disco diva vocals in my house, and a much more hyped up vibe, and shorter sections of singing with spaces for instrumental work. So for me that was house but only because of the rhythm section, which, in the end, means it's not real house, not really, not to a house head. Basically it's pop music trying to grab a ride on the coattails of the dance music movement, and for that I dispise it. I think the best term for it would be one that describes a genre that all serious heads loathe with a passion ... "dance pop"
