My TESOL school (Oxford seminars) recommended a one page resume with a picture on the front of it and short little bullet points on each job going back five years. Works great for Hagwons, I guess. But what about Universities? Should I go for a more detailed two-pager? I've been in the work force awhile and wouldn't have much trouble filling up two pages.

Also, can anyone PM me a cut and paste of their resume if they have gotten any good responses from UNI's? I would look on Dave's resume board but he charges SEVENTY FIVE BUCKS to look at it these days (grumble grumble). I would post my own resume there but for the fear of getting spammed by recruiters who are just about the only ones willing to pay SEVENTY FIVE BUCKS to look at the resumes (grumble grumble).

I can't even look at my own resume once I post it (grumble grumble).

Lead with whatever impresses most. If you have a decent amount of university teaching experience, but only the BA/TESOL cert, lead with the experience. If you have a good MA, but little or no experience, lead with your education. For ESL university jobs, I usually made a section titled, 'RELATED EXPERIENCE', and listed ONLY my educational experience. They're not interested in non-teaching exerience. I also made sure to list all ESL publications, no matter the level. If you've written some TOEIC or TOEFL, put it on there! Proofreading? Put it on there! Anything that makes you look more into the dicipline...in any way. Plus, they may be looking to utilize you for language strengths other than just teaching. You never know. Cheers, and good luck.

I agree with PRagic.

If your experience and education warrants two pages - do two pages.

IMO/IME a one page bulleted resume would not be sufficient for a decent university position. Depends on where you are looking for employment though. I don't think it would do for Korea. Better uni positions aren't going to relative beginners - TEFL Certification or not - so document everything relevant.

Oh, and wear a tie in the picture. You'd be surprised how many westerners over here shoot themselves in the foot over a simple wardrobe choice. Once you're in, fine, go with the ivory tower, professor wanna-be rumpled look if you want to, but not in the pics, and never during an interview.
